Advanced Format Round 9 Feature Match: Jake Louis Lombardi vs. Mason Wade McCoy
In the final Advanced Format Feature Match of Day 1 here at YCS Columbus, we have Jake Louis Lombardi and his Kewl Tune Deck facing off against Mason Wade McCoy and his DoomZ Deck. Each of these Duelists has a 7-1 record, so they’ll both be back for Day 2 on Sunday. However, only one Duelist will secure yet another win this round, and move one step closer to the Top 8 Cut. Let’s find out who it is! It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Lombardi won the die roll and chose to go first! He opened with Kewl Tune Mix, Infinite Impermanence, Kewl Tune Rotary, and two copies of Kewl Tune Synchro. He began his turn by activating the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary, revealing Mix, then Normal Summoned Mix and searched for Kewl Tune Cue. On resolution, McCoy activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Next, Lombardi Normal Summoned Cue but did not use its effect, then used Cue on the field and Rotary from hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker. He used Track Maker to search for Kewl Tune Synchro, looked at his opponent’s hand of The Fallen & The Virtuous, Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus, Bystial Magnamhut,DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea , and DoomZ Change, added JJ “Kewl Tune” to hand, banished Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron from the top of his opponent’s Deck, and returned another copy of DoomZ Change to the top of the Deck. He Set 3 cards to his backrow and proceeded to the End Phase. Here, McCoy activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, banishing Rotary from Lombardi’s Graveyard, and searched for DoomZ VII Seven – Elara.

In McCoy’s Draw Phase, Lombardi activated Kewl Tune Synchro. Lombardi Chained The Fallen & The Virtuous, sending Albion the Branded Dragon to the Graveyard and targeting Track Maker; Lombardi Chained a second Kewl Tune Synchro, but McCoy Chained Forbidden Crown as Chain Link 4! McCoy applied Crown’s effect to Track Maker, as Lombardi resolved one of his Synchros to search for Kewl Tune Reco and use Reco and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS. Lombardi then resolved the second Kewl Tune Synchro to search for a copy of Kewl Tune Clip. McCoy Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, but when he activated its effect, he was met by Lombardi’s Infinite Impermanence! McCoy then activated Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus, sending Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron to the Graveyard to search for Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity. He activated Vidolium in the Pendulum Zone, but he was unable to activate its effect, as it was activated in the same column as Lombardi’s Infinite Impermanence! McCoy then activated DoomZ Change, destroying DoomZ V Five – Amalthe in his Deck and searching for Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron. McCoy activated Jupredo in his other Pendulum Zone, then activated the effect of DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea in hand, destroying Jupredo to Special Summon Drastea and equip it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G”. In a new chain, McCoy activated the effect of the destroyed Jupredo to search for DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”. He equipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to Lombardi’s RS, and in response, Lombardi activated RS’ effect, banishing Cue from his Graveyard to negate DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”’s effect.
Next, McCoy activated the effect of Drastea, using it to Xyz Summon DoomZ XII End – Drastrius! He used its effect and attempted to equip RS to it, but Lombardi Chained the effect of Clip, using RS and Clip to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon. Lombardi activated Clip’s effect to banish Number F0: Utopic Future Zexal from McCoy’s Extra Deck. McCoy then activated the effect of DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” in the Graveyard, equipping it to Elara. He activated Drastea’s effect, destroying the Vidolium in his Pendulum Zone, then activated Vidolium’s effect to search for Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia. McCoy proceeded to the End Phase, using Albion’s effect to Set The Fallen & The Virtuous to his backrow, then ended his turn.
Lombardi drew Fydraulis Harmonia for turn! During the Draw Phase, he activated Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Mix, then used Track Maker and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Loudness War. He used Mix’s effect to destroy McCoy’s Magnamhut and Track Maker’s effect to return Drastrius to McCoy’s hand. McCoy activated Drastrius’ effect as Chain Link 3, but Lombardi Chained Zalen’s effect as Chain Link 4; McCoy activated The Fallen & The Virtuous as Chain Link 5, targeting Loudness War, and Lombardi used the effect of Loudness War as Chain Link 6, banishing Track Maker from his Graveyard! On resolution, McCoy’s Elara and Drastrius were returned to the hand and Extra Deck, respectively, and Magnamhut was destroyed. Unable to deal with Lombardi’s monsters, McCoy conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2
Lombardi opened with Duelist Genesis, Droll & Lock Bird, Kewl Tune Reco, Kewl Tune Rotary, and Kewl Tune Synchro.
McCoy chose to go first in the second Duel! He started by Normal Summoning Medius the Pure and Special Summoning Power Patron DoomZ from the Deck. He activated Power Patron’s effect, using Medius to Xyz Summon Doomz Break – Diactorus and equip it with the Power Patron, then used Diactorus to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio! He activated the Power Patron’s effect to search for DoomZ Change, and on resolution, Lombardi activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. McCoy Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.

Lombardi drew Fydraulis Harmonia for turn! He started by activating the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary and Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Reco. McCoy Chained DoomZ Destruction, Lombardi Chained Kewl Tune Synchro, but McCoy followed up with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Here, Lombardi used Reco on the field and Rotary from hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, then destroyed Destruction and searched for Kewl Tune Synchro. Meanwhile, McCoy used the effect of the destroyed Destruction to equip Amalthe to Graflareio as an Equip Spell. Lombardi activated Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Cue, as McCoy Chained Forbidden Crown, applying its effects to Lombardi’s Track Maker.
Lombardi then Normal Summoned Cue, Special Summoned Kewl Tune Mix from the Deck, and searched for another copy of Rotary. He used Cue from the field and Rotary from hand to Synchro Summon another Track Maker, allowing him to search for JJ “Kewl Tune” and place Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to the top of McCoy’s Deck. He then activated Duelist Genesis, searching for Synchro Overtake, then used Mix and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Loudness War. He used Track Maker’s effect to return McCoy’s Graflareio to the Extra Deck, then proceeded to the Battle Phase and used Loudness War to attack McCoy’s Life Points directly. Finally, he Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
McCoy started his turn by activating DoomZ Change and destroying DoomZ V Five – Amalthe from his Deck. He activated the effect of the destroyed Amalthe, searching for DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, then activated Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron in his Pendulum Zone! He activated its effect, but Lombardi Chained the effect of Loudness War, banishing Track Maker to return Jupredo to McCoy’s hand, and preventing it from resolving its Pendulum Scale effect. From here, McCoy Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara and Set DoomZ Raiders from the Deck. He activated Jupredo in the Pendulum Zone, then used Raiders’ effect to destroy Jupredo and Special Summon another Elara from the Deck. He used two copies of Elara to Xyz Summon Springans Merrymaker, used it to Xyz Summon Gigantic “Champion” Sargas, then activated its effect, but Lombardi Chained the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia in hand! Lombardi destroyed Sargas and sent Wind Pegasus @Ignister to the Graveyard as McCoy searched for Therion “King” Regulus. McCoy Special Summoned Regulus from hand and equipped it with Power Patron DoomZ, then Special Summoned Medius the Pure from the Graveyard and activated its effect to Special Summon another Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron from his Deck. McCoy activated the effect of Jupredo, banishing 3 cards from the top of his Deck to Special Summon Jupiter the Power Patron of Destruction, then used Jupredo’s effect to search for DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”. He equipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to Loudness War, then used its effect to destroy Loudness War and Special Summon DoomZ V Five – Amalthe. He used Medius and Amalthe to Xyz Summon Number 60: Dugares the Timeless, detached two materials to Special Summon back Doomz Break – Diactorus from the Graveyard, then destroyed Power Patron DoomZ and Fydraulis Harmonia. This allowed him to use the Power Patron’s effect to search for a DoomZ card! With that, Lombardi knew his opponent’s board would be too much for him to push through, and so he conceded.

Duel 3
Lombardi chose to go first in the final Duel! He opened with Kewl Tune Reco, Kewl Tune Synchro, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and two copies of Kewl Tune Rotary. He started by activating the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary, Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Reco. Here, McCoy activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, but Lombardi Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, Lombardi used Reco and Rotary to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, then searched for Kewl Tune Cue and Kewl Tune Synchro. He Normal Summoned Cue, Special Summoned Kewl Tune Mix from the Deck and searched for Reco, then used Cue and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon! He placed DoomZ Destruction to the top of his opponent’s Deck, used Reco and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix, Set two cards to his backrow, and ended his turn.
McCoy started his turn by activating Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron in the Pendulum Zone. Here, Lombardi activated the effect of Remix, adding Cue back to hand while Special Summoning Reco and searching for Clip. He then activated Clip’s effect, Special Summoning it and using it and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS. McCoy Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, but Lombardi Chained Kewl Tune Synchro, then activated Zalen’s effect as Chain Link 3 to negate Elara’s effect and destroy it! Finally, McCoy activated the effect of Jupredo in the Pendulum Zone, but Lombardi Chained the effect of RS, banishing Reco to negate it. With that, McCoy accepted that he could no longer push through Lombardis board, and conceded.

With that, Lombardi’s record improves to 8-1. EIther way, both Duelists will be back on Sunday, competing for a chance to make it to the Top 8 at YCS Columbus!
