It is time for the first-ever Genesys YCS! Duelists have gathered for the first Genesys Format event with the same prizing as the Advanced format event!

Seth Williams, from Moline, IL, played in the Proto-YCS during the 300th YCS in Richmond, VA, just a few months ago, and now he’s ready to try to get his own copy of Anotherverse Stratios. 

Jon Howard, from Bourbon, IN, didn’t get a chance to participate in the Proto-YCS, but he wasn’t going to miss the first Genesys YCS!

Williams is piloting an Exodia deck that utilizes Timelord and Darklord monsters to try to quickly assemble all five pieces of Exodia the Forbidden One. Howard, on the other hand, is using Mimighoul monsters to try to lock his opponents in a dungeon of Flip monsters. 

Duel One

Howard won the dice roll and chose to start the match.

Howard began the match by activating Mimighoul Maker! He revealed Mimighoul Slime and Mimighoul Flower, and Williams randomly picked and Special Summoned Flower to his side of the field. Howard Special Summoned a Slime to his side of the field in face-up Defense Position. He then activated and Special Summoned Treasure Panther to his field! Howard activated its effect and flipped Williams’ Flower face-up. Williams activated Flower’s effect, which let Howard add Mimighoul Dragon, then Williams shifted control of Flower back to its owner. 

Howard used Slime and Panther to Xyz Summon Giant Mimighoul, and he activated its effect immediately to add Mimighoul Dungeon from his Deck to his hand. He then Normal Summoned Mimighoul Dragon and used its effect to add another copy of Mimighoul Maker to his hand. 

Howard then Xyz Summoned Mimighoul Throne with Dragon and Flower. He activated its effect and detached Flower to Special Summon Mimighoul Master from his Deck! Howard then activated Master’s effect and added a Mimighoul Fairy from his Deck to his hand. Howard activated Mimighoul Dungeon and used its effect to add Mimighoul Armor from his Deck to his hand. 

Howard activated and Special Summoned Mimighoul Fairy face-down to Williams’ side of the field. He Set 1 card and then ended his turn.

Williams started with Upstart Goblin, Subspace Battle, Darklord Gulgolet, Cards from the Sky, and Into the Void. He drew Zaphion, the Timelord, at the start of his turn. 

Williams activated Subspace Battle! Williams revealed three copies of Sandaion, the Timelord, while Howard revealed two Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and a Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Williams added all three Sandaion to his hand while Howard lost his monsters and 1500 Life Points. 

Williams activated Cards from the Sky! He banished Sandaion, the Timelord from his hand and drew Gold Moon Coin and Link Apple. Williams then activated Link Apple, he banished Infernoid Evil and drew Right Arm of the Forbidden One! Williams then activated Infernoid Evil’s effect and added Into the Void from his Deck to his hand. 

Williams activated Upstart Goblin and drew Darklord Ixchel. He then used Ixchel’s effect and discarded Gulgolet to draw Tokusano Shinkyojin and Cards from the Sky. Williams activated Golgolet’s effect and added Banishment of the Darklord, which he used to add another Ixchel from his Deck. Williams then activated another Cards from the Sky by banishing another Sandaion, he drew Left Arm of the Forbidden One and Right Leg of the Forbidden One.

Williams activated Tokusano Shinkyojin and sent Zaphion, the Timelord to draw Allure of Darkness and Magical Mallet. He then activated two copies of Into the Void and drew another Tokusano Shinkyojin and Pot of Duality. Williams used Allure of Darkness to draw Magical Mallet and Upstart Goblin before sending Ixchel to the banishment.

Williams continued his turn with Upstart Goblin and drew Tokusano Shinkyojin, which he used to draw Pot of Acquisitiveness and Sephylon, the Ultimate Time Lord. He activated another Tokusano and drew his third copy of Into the Void and another Sephylon. Williams used Into the Void and drew Pot of Greed! He used Pot of Greed and drew Allure of Darkness and Cards from the Sky. 

Williams paused for a moment to count how many cards were left in his deck: six. Of those six, two were the cards he needed to win the Duel.

Williams looked over his hand and then activated Cards from the Sky. He banished Sephylon to draw Sandwich Day and Left Leg of the Forbidden One. Williams then used Sandwich Day and drew Allure of Darkness. Finally, he activated his Pot of Duality and revealed the last three cards of his deck. He revealed and added Exodia the Forbidden One! The final piece!

Williams drew almost his entire deck in one turn and assembled Exodia the Forbidden One to take the first duel!

Duel Two

Howard chose to start the second Duel. 

Howard began with Mimighoul Dungeon and added Mimighoul Dragon from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Dragon and used it to add Mimighoul Maker, which was then activated. Howard revealed Mimighoul Flower and Mimighoul Slime, and Williams randomly Special Summoned Flower to his field. Howard then Special Summoned a Slime to his own field from his hand. He then activated and Special Summoned Mimighoul Archfiend to Williams’ field. 

Howard used Slime and Dragon to Xyz Summon Ripple Bird! He used its effect and detached Slime to flip Williams’ Flower face-up. Williams activated Flower’s effect, and Howard was able to add WAKE CUP! Mocha from his Deck to his hand. Williams then gave control of Flower back to Howard.

Howard used Ripple Bird again and flipped Archfiend face-up! Williams activated Archfiend, letting Howard draw a card. Williams then discarded Pot of Acquisitiveness before giving up control of Archfiend.

Howard used Flower and Archfiend to Xyz Summon Giant Mimighoul! He used its effect to add another Mimighoul Archfiend from his Deck to his hand. Ripple Bird and Giant were then used to Xyz Summon Number F0: Utopic Future Zexal. Howard Set 1 card and moved to his End Phase.

Williams started with Magical Mallet, Darklord Ixchel, Left Leg of the Forbidden One, and Right Arm of the Forbidden One. 

Williams drew Allure of Darkness, which he immediately activated. He drew Upstart Goblin and another Allure, and he banished the Left Leg. Williams activated another Allure of Darkness, but was stopped by Howard’s Solemn Judgment! He then used Upstart and drew Link Apple! Williams activated it and banished Infernoid Evil to draw Sandaion, the Timelord. He activated Evil’s effect and added Into the Void, which drew another copy of Sandaion. 

Williams looked over his hand before activating Magical Mallet. He shuffled back his entire hand to draw Sandwich Day, Tokusano Shinkyojin, Into the Void, and Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord. Williams used Sandwich Day and drew another Tokusano. He then activated Into the Void, which drew another Into the Void, which drew Darklord Gulgomet. 

Williams then used Tokusano Shinkyojin and sent Sephylon to draw another Sephylon and Upstart. He activated Upstart and drew Spiritualism! He then used another Tokusano, sending Sephylon, and drew Darklord Ixchel and Cards from the Sky. Williams activated Ixchel’s effect and sent itself and Gulgomet to draw Sandaion, the Timelord, and Pot of Acquisitiveness. He activated Gulgomet’s effect and added Banishment of the Darklords, which he activated to add another Ixchel to his hand. Williams then activated Cards from the Sky and drew two pieces of Exodia. He activated his Pot of Acquisitiveness and shuffled back his banished cards to draw one of Exodia’s legs.

Knowing he couldn’t draw more cards to draw from his Deck, Williams conceded the second Duel!

Duel Three

Williams chose to start the final duel of the match. He started with Sandwich Day, two Magical Mallet, Into the Void, and Sandaion, the Timelord.

Williams started the Duel with Into the Void, and he drew Darklord Ixchel. He looked over his hand for a moment before activating Magical Mallet! He put back everything but his second Magical Mallet to draw three new cards. Williams drew Right Arm of the Forbidden One, Pot of Greed, and Cards from the Sky. He activated Pot of Greed and drew Pot of Duality and Subspace Battle.

Williams activated Subspace Battle; he and Howard revealed three copies of Sandaion, the Timelord, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, respectively. 

Williams continued with a flurry of plays that allowed him to continue drawing cards until he drew every single card in his deck and assembled all five pieces of Exodia the Forbidden One!

Drawing through his entire deck in one turn, Williams assembled Exodia the Forbidden One twice to win his first round here at YCS Columbus!
