Round 2 Feature Match: Mandeep Singh Sodi vs. Stephane Chan Yum Wing

We’re kicking off Round 2 of YCS Vancouver with a classic battle: Yu-Gi-Oh! dragons versus Yu-Gi-Oh! GX robot dragons! We’ve got Mandeep Singh Sodi, here from Mississauga, ON, playing Cyber Dragons with all the recent support from Alliance Insight! He’s facing Stephane Chan Yum Wing, from Kelowna, BC, using Primite Blue-Eyes!

Duel 1

Sodi began with a hand of two copies of Triple Tactics Thrust, Ultimate Slayer, Forbidden Droplet, and Cyberdark Realm. Chan Yum Wing won the dice roll and played first, with no way of knowing that Sodi’s Deck was built for going second.

Chan Yum Wing won the dice roll and began with Sage with Eyes of Blue, adding Maiden of White to his hand. He Link Summoned Spirit with Eyes of Blue, adding Mausoleum of White to his hand. He used Mausoleum’s effect to send a Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard, then activated Maiden’s effect to put True Light on the field. He used Spirit’s effect to Special Summon his Blue-Eyes, and Maiden hit the field as well. He Synchro Summoned Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, then activated Wishes for Eyes of Blue by discarding Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Wishes put Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons and a Sage in his hand. He used Mausoleum’s bonus Normal Summon to play Sage, which put Effect Veiler in his hand. He used True Light to Special Summon Blue-Eyes once again. He used Sage to Link Summon a second Spirit with Eyes of Blue. Then he banished Wishes from his Graveyard to equip Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to his Blue-Eyes White Dragon. He used Spirit and Blue-Eyes to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, and Set one card in his back row.

Stephane Chan Yum Wing

Sodi drew Cyber Dragon Nachster. He began with Ultimate Slayer, sending Golden Cloud Beast – Malong to the Graveyard! Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon was sent back to the Extra Deck, and Malong then bounced Chan Yum Wing’s face-down card to the hand. Sodi played Cyberdark Realm, and Chan Yum Wing Chained Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres to return the Realm to Sodi’s hand, preventing it from resolving. Heavenly Spheres’s effect brought Bystial Magnamhut to the field, and Chan Yum Wing activated its effect to get a Dragon in the End Phase. Sodi now was able to activate Triple Tactics Thrust, putting Cyber Emergency in his hand. He played it to add Cyber Dragon Core to his hand, and Normal Summoned it. Chan Yum Wing responded with Effect Veiler, and Sodi Chained Forbidden Droplet to send Core to the Graveyard, negating Magnamhut and more importantly dodging Veiler. Core’s effect put Cybernetic Horizon in Sodi’s hand. He played Horizon, sending Nachster from his hand and Cyberdark Chimera from his Deck, to add Cyber Jormungardr to his hand and put Cyber Eternity Dragon in his Graveyard. He activated Jormungardr’s effect, Special Summoning it from his hand along with Cyber Dragon from his Deck. He used both monsters to Xyz Summon Cyber Dragon Nova. Chan Yum Wing responded to the Xyz Summon with True Light, bringing Blue-Eyes to the field in Attack Position, and then Special Summoned Maiden from the Graveyard in Defense Position. Sodi used Nova’s effect, detaching Cyber Dragon to revive Nachster. Nachster then brought Chimera to the field. He used Nova to Xyz Summon Cyber Dragon Infinity! Then he banished Cyber Eternity Dragon from the Graveyard for its effect to protect his Fusion Monsters this turn. He used Chimera’s effect, discarding Realm to add Power Bond to his hand, while also enabling his next Fusion Summon to use monsters from the Graveyard. He used Nachster and Chimera to Link Summon Cyber Dragon Sieger, then played Power Bond! He banished the Cyber Dragon and Core from his Graveyard, fusing them into Chimeratech Rampage Dragon! It destroyed Mausoleum and True Light, and True Light then wiped out Chan Yum Wing’s monsters! Rampage sent two more monsters to the Graveyard to gain extra attacks this turn. Between Power Bond and Sieger, Rampage was up to 6300 ATK and could attack three times, obliterating Chan Yum Wing’s Life Points!

Duel 2

Chan Yum Wing chose to play second this time, and activated Mulcharmy Purulia in Sodi’s Draw Phase.

Sodi began with Clockwork Night, Cyber Dragon Herz, Ultimate Slayer, Cyber Emergency, and Lightning Storm. He played Clockwork Night, and passed the turn. That would deny the Purulia draw, while still hindering Chan Yum Wing’s Deck.

Chan Yum Wing played Wishes, discarding Blue-Eyes White Dragon to add Sage and Roar to his hand. He Normal Summoned Sage, adding Maiden to his hand. Maiden’s effect brought True Light to the field. Roar brought Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the field, and he Special Summoned Maiden as well. He used Sage and Blue-Eyes to Synchro Summon Lightstorm Dragon, destroying Clockwork Night! He activated True Light’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes from his Graveyard, then banished Wishes to equip it with Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. He Synchro Summoned Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, and moved to the Battle Phase. Spirit Dragon and Lightstorm attacked directly, dropping Sodi to 2800 Life Points. He then used Spirit Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Ancient Fairy Life Dragon! Even though Spirit Dragon Special Summons monsters in Defense Position, Ancient Fairy Life Dragon’s effect allowed it to attack while in Defense Position to end the Duel on Chan Yum Wing’s first turn!

Duel 3

Sodi chose to play second for the final Duel. Chan Yum Wing started with the effect of Maiden, putting True Light on the field. He used True Light to Set Wishes, and then activated it by discarding Infinite Impermanence. Wishes put Sage and Roar in his hand. He activated Mausoleum of White, then used his extra Normal Summon to play Sage and add Effect Veiler to his hand. He Link Summoned Spirit with Eyes of Blue, then used Mausoleum’s effect to get Blue-Eyes White Dragon in the Graveyard. Spirit’s effect brought Blue-Eyes to the field, and Maiden came along with it. He banished Wishes to equip Blue-Eyes with Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, then Synchro Summoned Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon in Defense Position. He Set one back row card and passed the turn.

Sodi had Harpie’s Feather Duster, Cyberdark Realm, Cyberdark Wurm, Forbidden Droplet, and Triple Tactics Talent. He drew Ultimate Slayer! He started with Harpie’s Feather Duster, destroying True Light and a Set Majesty of the White Dragons. True Light’s effect activated in the Graveyard, and Chan Yum Wing negated it with Spirit Dragon. He then used Spirit Dragon’s other effect, Tributing it to bring forth Blue-Eyes Ultimate Spirit Dragon – Sodi simply played Ultimate Slayer, sending Malong to the Graveyard to bounce away the Ultimate Spirit Dragon. He then used Triple Tactics Talent, revealing Chan Yum Wing’s hand of Effect Veiler, Roar, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, shuffling Ash Blossom back into the Deck. That let him know only one card could interact with him now.

Sodi played Cyberdark Realm to add Cyberdark Chimera to his hand. He used Realm’s effect to Normal Summon Chimera, then Link Summoned Clockwork Knight. He activated Clockwork Knight as Chain Link 1, sending Realm as the cost, and activated Chimera as Chain Link 2. Chan Yum Wing considered a while on whether or not to use his Effect Veiler, and chose not to. Sodi’s effects put Clockwork Night in his hand and Cyberdark Claw in the Graveyard. He then activated Cyberdark Wurm’s effect in the hand, sending Herz from his Deck to the Graveyard, and added Realm back to his hand. Herz’s effect put Cyber Dragon in his hand. He activated Clockwork Knight’s effect, Tributing Wurm to revive Chimera. He then used Chimera’s effect, discarding Clockwork Night, and Chan Yum Wing finally used Effect Veiler to negate Chimera. Sodi banished Clockwork Night from his Graveyard and discarded Realm, adding Therion “King” Regulus to his hand! He Special Summoned Regulus, equipping it with Herz. He then used Chimera to Tribute Summon Cyber Dragon. He went to the Battle Phase, attacking with everything to drop Chan Yum Wing to 2600 Life Points. He Set Forbidden Droplet to finish the turn.

Chan Yum Wing played one of his two cards: Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. Sodi negated it by sending Regulus to the Graveyard, and the equipped Herz added Wurm back to his hand. Chan Yum Wing revealed the final card in his hand: Wishes for Eyes of Blue, with nothing to discard. He offered the handshake!
