Lloyd King from Louisville, Kentucky and Joshua Friedman from Bayville, New York both currently have 5-1 records in this weekend’s Genesys Proto-YCS. Now, they’re Dueling against one another in today’s final Swiss Round! King is using an Exosister Deck, boosted by the recent release of Exosister Karmael and Exosister Betrayal in Burst Protocol. As we saw in Friedman’s triumphant Round 4 Feature Match, Friedman is on a Shaddoll Dracotail strategy. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
King opened up Duel 1 with Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Exosister Betrayal, Exosister Martha, Aratama, and Exosister Stella.

He activated Martha’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand along with an Exosister Elis from his Deck. He combined Martha with Elis to Xyz Summon Exosister Karmael and activated her effect. Next, he activated Exosister Betrayal and used its effect to add Exosister Martha and Exosister Sophia from his Deck to his hand and discard Mulcharmy Fuwalos. He Normal Summoned Stella next, and used Stella’s effect to Special Summon Sophia from his hand. He used Sophia’s effect to draw another Elis from his Deck and then combined Sophia with Stella to Xyz Summon Exosister Mikailis. Next, he detached an Xyz Material from Mikailis to activate her effect, and added Exosister Vadis from his Deck to his hand. He Set the Vadis and then entered his End Phase. In the End Phase, he Set Exosister Returnia from his Deck to his field thanks to Karmael’s effect.
Friedman activated Polymerization, but King used his Karmael’s effect to change Polymerization’s effect it make it return Fuwalos from King’s Graveyard to his hand instead. Next, Friedman activated another Polymerization! He fused Dracotail Pan with Skull Meister to Special Summon Dracotail Arthalion and then activated the effects of Arthalion and Pan as Chain Links 1 and 2 respectively. He targeted Mikailis and Pan with Arthalion’s effect. King Chained Betrayal’s effect as Chain Link 3 and then Chained Returnia to banish Arthalion and then use his 2 monsters as Xyz Materials to Summon Exosisters Magnifica. Friedman banished Skull Meister from his Graveyard due to Betrayal’s effect and then Pan’s effect resolved to Set Ketu Dracotail from Friedman’s Deck and destroy Magnifica. Friedman activated Ketu Dracotail and used its effect to add Dracotail Lukias from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned it. He used its effect to add Dracotail Faimena from his Deck to his hand and then discarded Faimena to activate its effect. He fused Lukias on his field with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand to Summon Dracotail Gulamel. He activated Lukias’s effect in the Graveyard and then Chained Gulamel’s effect to destroy Betrayal. Lukias’s effect Set Dracotail Horn from Friedman’s Deck to his field. Friedman attacked directly with Gulamel and then ended his turn.
King drew Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion and then activated Martha’s effect in his hand. He Special Summoned it alongside an Elis from his Deck and then combined both monsters to Xyz Summon Exosister Mikailis in Defense Position. He detached an Xyz Material from Mikailis to activate its effect and added Exosister Betrayal from his Deck to his hand. Next, he used Mikailis’s effect to banish Friedman’s face-down Horn. King activated Betrayal next, using its effect to add Exosister Stella and Exosister Irene from his Deck to his hand and discard Fuwalos. He Normal Summoned Stella next and used Stella’s effect to Special Summon Irene from his hand. He combined Stella with Irena to Xyz Summon Exosister Karmael and activated its effect so that he could Set a Spell or Trap in the End Phase. Next, he combined Mikailis with Karmael to Xyz Summon Exosisters Magnifica. He activated its effect by detaching an Xyz Material and banished Gulamel from the field. He Set Returnia from his Graveyard thanks to his Karmael’s effect.
Friedman drew a card and then activated Shaddoll Fusion! He fused Shaddoll Dragon and Dracotail Urgula from his Deck to Summon El Shaddoll Grysta. He activated the effects of Urgula and Dragon, targeting King’s face-down Returnia for destruction with Dragon’s effect. King Chained the Returnia to banish Grysta from the Duel, and then Urgula’s effect resolved, allowing Friedman to Set Rahu Dracotail from his Deck and destroy King’s face-down Vadis. King then used the effect of Magnifica to banish Friedman’s face-down Rahu Dracotail. Friedman activated his Urgula’s effect but lost out to King’s Ghost Belle. Friedman Normal Summoned Mululu and attacked Elis, then ended his turn.
King drew Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill and then Normal Summoned Aratama. He used Aratama’s effect to add Ichiki Sayori-Hime from his Deck to his hand and then used its effect to Normal Summon it. With just a Mululu on his field and no cards in his hand, Friedman conceded.

Duel Two
Friedman started off Duel 2 by activating Fusion Deployment.

He revealed Granguignol the Dusk Dragon from his Extra Deck and Special Summoned Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous from his Deck. King activated the effect of Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill targeting it, but Friedman Chained the effect of Blazing Cartesia to fuse the Shaddoll Beast and Shaddoll Faimena in his hand and Summon Arthalion. He targeted Beast and Faimena with Arthalion’s effect and activated the effects of Beast and Faimena in the Graveyard. He drew a card with Beast’s effect, Set Rahu Dracotail from his Deck with Faimena’s effect, and returned Faimena and Beast to his hand with Arthalion’s effect. Next, he Normal Summoned Lukias and used its effect to add Dracotail Mululu from his Deck to his hand. He activated Rahu Dracotail next, fusing the Mululu in his hand with the Urgula in his Deck to Summon Dracotail Gulamel. Next, he activated the effects of Mululu and Urgula to Set Ketu Dracotail and Dracotail Flame from his Deck. Friedman flipped Ketu Dracotail next, and used its effect to add Dracotail Pan from his Deck to his hand. In the End Phase, he activated Mistaken Arrest to stop King from adding cards from his Deck to his hand, except by drawing them during his next turn.
King drew Seventh Tachyon and added it to his hand of Exosister Vadis, Ghost Belle, and 2 copies of Exosister Stella. He Normal Summoned Stella and then used Stella’s effect to Special Summon another Stella from his hand. Friedman activated Faimena’s effect and Chained Gulamel’s effect to destroy a Stella. He fused Pan and Beast from his hand to Summon Secreterion Dragon and then activated the effects of Pan and Beast. He drew a card with Pan and then Set Dracotail Horn from his Deck before destroying Stella with the rest of Pan’s effect. King finally conceded, realizing he never had a chance of winning that Duel.

The Match is going to a third and final Duel!

King drew Dimension Shifter and then Set Ghost Belle face-down.
Friedman Normal Summoned Blazing Cartesia and activated its effect by fusing the Urgula and Nibiru in his hand. Both of them were banished, and Friedman Special Summoned Arthalion. He used Arthalion’s effect to return King’s face-down monster and the Lancea in his Graveyard back to his hand. Friedman attacked directly with Lukias, Arthalion, and Cartesia, wiping out all of King’s Life Points!

Joshua Friedman capitalizes on Lloyd King’s weak hand to take a quick victory in the third Duel and win the Match! Friedman is advancing to tomorrow’s Swiss Rounds with a 6-1 record!
