Advanced Round 10 Feature Match: Joao Silva vs. Khalil Johnson

Joao Silva from Sao Paulo, Brazil and Khalil Johnson from Battle Creek, Michigan both have 8-1 records and are now Dueling against one another in this Round 10 Feature Match! Silva is using a Radiant Typhoon strategy, while Johnson is using a K9 Fur Hire strategy. Both of these Duelists’ Decks were boosted by new support from the recently released Burst Protocol booster set, and these players are hoping that their mastery of the new cards will give them the edge in this Match. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Silva opened up Duel 1 with Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Mystical Space Typhoon, Forbidden Droplet, and Shiina, Twin Tempests of Celestial Thunder.

He Set the Droplet and ended his turn, shaking his head in disappointment.

Johnson activated “A Case for K9” and used its effect to add K9-04 Noroi from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect, but Silva Chained Forbidden Droplet by sending Mystical Space Typhoon to his Graveyard. He negated the effect of Noroi and halved its ATK. Next, Johnson activated Fossil Dig to add Rex, Ride Fur Hire from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect in his hand by revealing it. Silva Chained the effect of Fuwalos and then Silva Special Summoned the Rex, Ride Fur Hire and Rex, Freight Fur Hire from his hand. He combined Ride Fur Hire with Noroi to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”, allowing Silva to draw a card from Fuwalos’s effect. Next, he used the effect of “Ripper” to add K9-X Forced Release from his Deck to his hand. He activated it to upgrade “Ripper” to K9-X “Werewolf”, allowing Silva to draw another card, and then two direct attacks from the “Werewolf” with 4100 ATK wiped out all of Silva’s Life Points!

A weak opening hand for Joao Silva allows Khalil Johnson to take a quick victory in the first Duel of the Match!

Duel Two

Silva opened up Duel 2 with Radiant Typhoon Ascendance, Radiant Typhoon Vision, Super Polymerization, and 2 copies of The Fallen & The Virtuous. He activated Ascendance in his Draw Phase to add Mystical Space Typhoon from his Deck to his hand. Next, while still in his Draw Phase, he activated Vision to draw Radiant Typhoon Chant and Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex, and discard The Fallen & The Virtuous. On resolution, he activated the effect of Varuroon and Chained the activation of Chant. He used Chant’s effect to add Radiant Typhoon Eldam to his hand and Special Summoned the Varuroon. He entered his Main Phase and then Special Summoned Eldam from his hand. He used its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Krosea from his Deck to his hand. He sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon and used its effect to add Mystical Space Typhoon from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Set a Mystical Space Typhoon face-down and then activated his other Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it. In a new Chain, he activated the effects of the Marine Eidolon and Krosea to place Radiant Typhoon Mandate face-up in his Spell & Trap Card Zone and add Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Meghala from his Deck to his hand. Next, he used his Mandate’s effect to return 3 Quick-Play Spells from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He Special Summoned Meghala next and then activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Mandate. He activated the effects of Meghala, the Vibrant Vortex, and Mandate. He Set Mandate back to his field, Special Summoned the Vibrant Vortex from his Graveyard, and Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Swen from his Deck. Silva activated the Vibrant Vortex’s effect to negate the effect of Jokul and then destroy it. Johnson used his Lantern’s effect next, and Silva Chained his face-down Mandate to shuffle 3 cards from his Graveyard into his Deck, draw a card, and increase his monsters’ ATK and DEF by 300. Johnson Special Summoned Lantern from his hand and Jokul from his Graveyard, and then Silva flipped Super Polymerization and discarded a card to fuse Johnson’s 2 monsters together and Summon Mudragon of the Swamp. He used Mudragon’s effect to make it a WIND monster and Johnson conceded.

Silva drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn and then Normal Summoned Swen. He activated its effect, but Johnson Chained Forbidden Droplet by sending Chaotic Elements to the Graveyard. Forbidden Droplet resolved to negate Swen’s effect and halve its ATK. Silva ended his turn, and in his End Phase, Johnson activated Furtive Techniques to destroy Swen and then drew a card with Folgo’s effect.

Johnson drew a card and then used his Fandora’s effect to add Rex, Freight Fur Hire from his Deck to his hand and discard Chaotic Elements. Folgo attacked directly, dropping Silva’s Life Points down to 0!
