Advanced Round 1 Feature Match: Brandon Bryan Ferrell vs. Steven Lawrence Colombe
It’s time to begin! Duelists are ready to begin competing, each of them hoping to be declared the winner of the 300th YCS in Virginia. In the first Advanced Format Feature Match of the weekend, we have Brandon Bryan Ferrell facing off against Steven Lawrence Colombe. Ferrell is playing Vanquish Soul K9, while Colombe is playing Blue-Eyes, a Deck that he has been playing for several years! Which Duelist will start off their YCS Richmond experience with a victory? Let’s find out! It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Ferrell’s opening hand contained “A Case for K9”, K9-17 Izuna, Vanquish Soul Razen, K9-66b Lantern, and Stake Your Soul!.
Colombe won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by activating Primite Lordly Lode, adding Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to hand, then Normal Summoned it and Set Primite Drillbeam to his backrow. Next, he used Ether Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue and searched for Mausoleum of White! He activated Mausoleum, used its effect to send Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard, then Tributed the Spirit to Special Summon back Blue-Eyes! Next, he activated Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, Special Summoning Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon from his Deck, then Special Summoned Bystial Magnamhut! Here, Ferrell activated the effect of K9-17 Izuna, Special Summoning it from hand, but when he activated its effect, Colombe Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Finally, Colombe used Magnamhut and Jet Dragon to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, searched for another Blue-Eyes White Dragon during the End Phase, and ended his turn.

Ferell drew another copy of Izuna for turn! He began by Normal Summoning Vanquish Soul Razen, but when he activated its effect, Colombe responded with Primite Drillbeam, negating Razen’s effect and banishing it! Next, Ferrell activated “A Case for K9”, but on activation, Colombe Chained the effect of Hieratic Seal, returning Case to Ferrell’s hand before it could resolve. Here, Colombe used the effect of Hieratic Seal to Special Summon Ether Beryl from the Deck. Ferrell then activated the effect of Izuna, Special Summoning it from hand and sending K9-ØØ Lupis to the Graveyard, then used the two copies of Izuna to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He activated Ripper’s effect, searching for K9-66a Jokul and Setting K9-X Forced Release to his backrow.
Next, Ferrell activated Stake Your Soul!, Special Summoning Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from his Deck and searching for Vanquish Soul, Start!. He activated Start!, then used its effect to search for Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue. Here, he used Mad Love to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher, added Mad Love back to hand, then used Jokul’s effect to Special Summon it and Hollie Sue. He used Jokul’s effect to search for K9-04 Noroi, then activated the effect of K9-66b Lantern, Special Summoning it from hand and Izuna from the Graveyard. He used Lantern and Jokul to Xyz Summon N.As.H. Knight, then activated its effect to try and attach Colombe’s Blue-Eyes White Dragon to it as Xyz Material. Here, Colombe knew that he couldn’t defend his Life Points any further, and conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2
Ferrell’s opening hand contained K9-17 Izuna, K9-ØØ Lupis, Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love, and two copies of Droll & Lock Bird.
Colombe started by activating Primite Lordly Lode and searching for Primite Drillbeam; on resolution, Ferrell activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird! Colombe then Set two cards to his backrow, Set a monster in face-down Defense Position, and ended his turn.
Ferrell drew another copy of Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love for turn! He Normal Summoned Mad Love, but Colombe responded with the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, Ferrell Special Summoned Izuna from hand, but Colombe Chained Forbidden Crown, negating its effect. Ferrell Special Summoned Lupis from hand and proceeded to the Battle Phase, using Mad Love to attack and destroy Colombe’s face-down Sage with Eyes of Blue and attacking directly with Lupis. In Main Phase 2, Ferrell used Mad Love to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher, but when he activated its effect to add a Vanquish Soul monster from the Graveyard back to hand, Colombe activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, banishing it! Colombe searched for Primite Dragon Ether Beryl during the End Phase.

Colombe began his turn by Normal Summoning Ether Beryl and Setting Primite Fusion to his backrow. On resolution, Ferrell activated the effect of Lupis, using it and Izuna to Xyz Summon N.As.H. Knight! However, when he activated its effect, Colombe Chained Primite Drillbeam to banish N.As.H. Knight. Colombe Set Drillbeam back to his backrow, then used Ether Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue and search for Mausoleum of White. He activated the Mausoleum and used it to send Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard, then Tributed the Spirit to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Here, Ferrell Chained the effect of Rock of the Vanquisher, Special Summoning Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from hand to search for Vanquish Soul, Start!.
Colombe then activated Primite Fusion, using Spirit and Blue-Eyes to Fusion Summon Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon. He then used Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Tyrant Dragon to Xyz Summon Indigo-Eyes Silver Dragon! He activated Lordly Lode’s effect to Special Summon another Blue-Eyes from Deck, then used Indigo-Eyes to attack Ferrell’s Rock of the Vanquisher. In Main Phase 2, he used Indigo-Eyes and Magnamhut to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, then ended his turn.
Ferrell drew Dimension Shifter for turn! He started by activating Vanquish Soul, Start! and activating its effect, but Colombe Chained the effect of Hieratic Seal, returning Start! to Ferrell’s hand and Special Summoning Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon from the Deck. Ferrell then activated the effect of Lupis in the Graveyard, Special Summoning it back to the field, then proceeded to the Battle Phase and used Lupis to attack Jet Dragon. In Main Phase 2, Ferrell used Mad Love to Link Summon another Rock of the Vanquisher, but when he activated its effect, Colombe Chained Primite Drillbeam, negating Rock’s effect and banishing it! Ferrell then ended his turn.
Colombe began his turn by adding Primite Dragon Ether Beryl back to his hand and Normal Summoning it, then Set Primite Drillbeam from his Graveyard to his backrow. He switched his Blue-Eyes White Dragon to Attack Position, then used Ether Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue! He activated Spirit’s effect, Special Summoning another Blue-Eyes from the Graveyard and proceeded to the Battle Phase. With no ways to defend his Life Points, Ferrell conceded the second Duel; we’re moving on to game three!

Duel 3
Ferrell chose to go first in the final Duel! He opened with Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, K9-X Forced Release, Vanquish Soul Jiaolong, K9-66a Jokul, and Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius.
In the Draw Phase, Colombe activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia! Ferrell chose to start by activating the effect of K9-66a Jokul, Special Summoning it and Jiaolong from hand. Afterwards, Colombe activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Ferrell activated Jokul’s effect, searching for K9-17 Izuna, then used Jiaolong and Jokul to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He activated Ripper’s effect, searching for K9-04 Noroi, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn.
Colombe began his turn by activating the effect of another Mulcharmy Fuwalos! He then activated Primite Lordly Lode, searching for Primite Drillbeam. He activated Drillbeam, revealing Blue-Eyes White Dragon in hand and attempting to banish Ripper, but Ferrell Chained K9-X Forced Release, Special Summoning K9-X “Werewolf” from his Extra Deck and destroying Lordly Lode! Colombe activated Wishes for Eyes of Blue, discarding Blue-Eyes, and Ferrell Chained K9-X “Werewolf”’s effect, banishing Primite Fusion from Colombe’s hand. Colombe resolved Wishes to search for Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons and Sage with Eyes of Blue, then Normal Summoned Sage and searched for Maiden of White.
Here, Ferrell activated the effect of K9-17 Izuna, Special Summoning it and sending K9-ØØ Lupis to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned back Lupis, then used Lupis and Izuna to Xyz Summon N.As.H. Knight! He activated N.As.H. Knight’s effect, attaching it with Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and Colombe’s Sage as Xyz Material. Colombe then activated the effect of Maiden of White, placing True Light to his backrow face-up; however, when he activated True Light’s effect, Ferrell responded with the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Colombe followed it up by activating Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, Special Summoning Blue-Eyes White Dragon from his Deck, then Special Summoned Maiden of White from his Graveyard and used Maiden to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue and search for Mausoleum of White. Colombe banished Wishes from his Graveyard to equip Blue-Eyes White Dragon with Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, then sent it to the Graveyard to Special Summon Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon! He Tributed Spirit to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard and proceeded to the Battle Phase; he used Tyrant Dragon to attack Werewolf and N.As.H. Knight, then attacked directly with Blue-Eyes White Dragon. In Main Phase 2, he used Tyrant Dragon and Blue-Eyes White Dragon to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, and ended his turn.
Ferrell drew K9-17 Izuna for turn! He began by Normal Summoning K9-04 Noroi, but when he activated its effect, it was met by Colombe’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, Ferrell Special Summoned K9-17 Izuna from hand, then used Izuna and Noroi to Xyz Summon K9-66X “Jacks”, but when he activated its effect, Colombe responded with the effect of Effect Veiler! Here, Colombe used the effect of Hieratic Seal, returning “Jacks” to the Extra Deck and Special Summoning Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon, then used True Light to Special Summon back Blue-Eyes White Dragon, which also allowed him to bring back the Maiden of White. Ferrell then activated the effect of Lupis, Special Summoning it from the Graveyard, then used it to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! He activated TY-PHON’s effect, returning Colombe’s Blue-Eyes to hand, then entered the Battle Phase and attacked Colombe’s Jet Dragon. Ferrell then ended his turn.
Colombe began his turn by using Maiden of White to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue! He activated Spirit’s effect, Tributing it to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Special Summoned back Maiden from the Graveyard, then used True Light‘s effect to Special Summon back another Blue-Eyes White Dragon and proceeded to the Battle Phase. Staring down another field full of Blue-Eyes monsters, Ferrell conceded.

Colombe takes the win and begins his tournament with a 1-0 record!
