We’re down to the Top 8 here at the 300th YCS in Richmond! Dwayne Eric Howell Jr. and Allen Cai have been Dueling against other Genesys Format Duelists in the Genesys Proto-YCS all weekend long, and they’re now competing for a spot in the Top 4. Howell Jr. is playing the Utopia Deck, while Cai is piloting the Radiant Typhoon strategy. Only one of them will be able to make it to the Top 4; let ‘s find out who that will be! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Cai won the die roll and chose to go first! He opened with Noble Knight’s Shield Bearer, Radiant Typhoon Meghala, Forbidden Droplet, Radiant Typhoon Swen, and Shiina, Twin Tempests of Celestial Thunder. He started off by activating the effect of Noble Knight’s Shield Bearer, banishing it from hand to search for Radiant Typhoon Eldam. He Special Summoned Eldam and searched for Radiant Typhoon Krosea, then Special Summoned Swen and searched for Radiant Typhoon Vision. Next, he Special Summoned Meghala from hand, then activated Vision, drawing another copy of each Swen and Krosea, then discarded Swen. Here, he activated the effect of Meghala to Special Summon Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex from Deck, as well as the effect of Krosea, Special Summoning it and searching for both Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Mandate. Finally, Cai used Swen and Eldam to Xyz Summon Totem Bird, Set 3 cards to his backrow, then ended his turn. 

Howell Jr. began by activating Seventh Tachyon; however, Cai Chained Mystical Space Typhoon, targeting Seventh Tachyon, then activated Radiant Typhoon Mandate as Chain Link 3, targeting Seventh Tachyon! On resolution, Cai activated the effect of Meghala, Special Summoning Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame from his Deck. Next, Howell Jr.activated the effect of Surfacing Big Jaws, Special Summoning it, but when he activated its effect, Cai responded by activating Forbidden Droplet, sending Meghala to the Graveyard to negate the effect of Big Jaws! Afterwards, Cai activated the effect of Fonix, returning Surfacing Big Jaws to the Deck; he also Special Summoned Krosea and searched for Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Ascendance. 

Next, Howell Jr.Normal Summoned Utopic Onomatopeia, but when he activated its effect, Cai responded with the effect of Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex, negating it. Cai then attempted to activate the effect of Mandate to return 3 Quick-Play Spell Cards to his Deck, but Howell Jr. Chained the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Mandate! Howell Jr. then Special Summoned Zubababancho Gagagacoat from hand, then used Gagagacoat and Utopic to Xyz Summon Gagagaga Girl! He activated its effect, but quickly realized that he wouldn’t be able to push through Cai’s board of powerful Radiant Typhoon monsters, and conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2

Howell Jr. chose to start in the second Duel. However, he ended his turn without making any plays!

Cai opened with Dominus Purge, Radiant Typhoon Meghala, Radiant Typhoon Krosea, Radiant Typhoon Manifestation, and Ultimate Slayer. He drew a second copy of Radiant Typhoon Manifestation for turn! He Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Meghala, then activated Manifestation to search for a copy of Mystical Space Typhoon. Next, Cai activated the effect of Meghala, Special Summoning Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame from Deck, then Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Krosea. Cai then activated the effect of the Radiant Typhoon Krosea, but Howell Jr. activated the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit as Chain Link 2, as well as the effect of Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill as Chain Link 3, resulting in Krosea being destroyed with its effect negated. Cai proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked directly with Meghala and Fonix. In Main Phase 2, he Set two cards to his backrow, then ended his turn. 

Howell Jr. started his turn by activating Seventh Tachyon, but Cai Chained Dominus Purge. He Set a monster in face-down Defense Position, then ended his turn. During the End Phase, Cai activated Manifestation, searching for Mystical Space Typhoon, and Chained Mystical Space Typhoon, destroying Manifestation and allowing it to be Set back to the field. Afterwards, he Set the destroyed Manifestation back to his backrow, activated Fonix’s effect to return Howell Jr.’s face-down monster to the Deck, and Special Summoned Krosea, searching for Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Swen. 

Cai drew Dark Ruler No More for turn! He began by Special Summoning Radiant Typhoon Swen and searching for Radiant Typhoon Vision, then activated Vision, drawing Ultimate Slayer and another copy of Vision. He then Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Eldam and searched for Radiant Typhoon Krosea, used Eldam and Meghala to Xyz Summon Totem Bird, and proceeded to the Battle Phase. He had more than enough monsters on the field to reduce Howell Jr.’s Life Points to zero! 

Cai takes the win, and is moving onto the Top 4 of the Genesys Proto-YCS!
