Day 2 has started here at the 300th YCS in Virginia, and these two Duelists are hoping to win it all! Jimmy Ye is playing the Kewl Tune Deck, a strategy that revolves around Synchro Summoning entirely with Tuner monsters. Meanwhile, Edwin Martin Strom IV is playing the Shaddoll Dracotail strategy, combining two powerful Fusion-based strategies into a single Deck! Both of these Duelists have perfect 7-0 records, but only one will move on and remain undefeated. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Strom won the die roll and chose to go first! He opened with Shaddoll Beast, Shaddoll Squamata, Polymerization, Dracotail Sting, and Dark Ruler No More. He Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.

Ye began by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Mix and searching for Kewl Tune Cue! He then activated Duelist Genesis, searching for Kewl Tune Synchro. Next, he used Kewl Tune Mix from the field and Hop Ear Squadron from hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, and activated its effect to search for JJ “Kewl Tune”. He activated JJ “Kewl Tune”, then activated Kewl Tune Synchro to search for Kewl Tune Cue, and used his additional Normal Summon to Normal Summon Kewl Tune Cue and Special Summon Red Nova from the Deck! He used Red Nova and Cue to Synchro Summon another Kewl Tune Track Maker, then Special Summoned Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck and banished Gameciel the Sea Turtle Kaiju from the top of Strom’s Deck! 

Next, Ye activated Reco’s effect, searching for Kewl Tune Clip, and used Clip and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS! Strom used Dracotail Sting to banish Kewl Tune Clip and Kewl Tune Synchro from Ye’s Graveyard, as Ye banished Dracotail Gulamel from Strom’s Extra Deck. Ye activated the effect of JJ “Kewl Tune”, Tributing one of his Track Makers to search for another copy of Kewl Tune Clip. He entered the Battle Phase and attacked Strom’s Life Points directly with RS, then ended his turn. 

Strom drew Dracotail Pan for turn! He began his turn by activating Dark Ruler No More, then activated Polymerization, using Squamata, Beast, and Pan to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion! He activated Arthalion’s effect to return RS to the Extra Deck, as well as Beast and Pan to his hand, activated Beast’s effect to draw a card, Pan’s effect to Set Ketu Dracotail to his backrow, and Squamata’s effect to send Shaddoll Hedgehog to the Graveyard. Ye responded by activating the effect of Kewl Tune Clip in his hand as Chain Link 5, using it and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Loudness War!  Strom resolved Hedgehog’s effect to search for Shaddoll Beast, as Ye used the effect of Track Maker to return Arthalion to the Extra Deck. 

Strom then activated Ketu Dracotail, searching for Dracotail Faimena. He Normal Summoned Dracotail Mululu and activated its effect, using Mululu and a copy of Shaddoll Beast from hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Gulamel! Strom activated the effect of Dracotail Mululu, but Ye Chained the effect of Herald of Orange Light, discarding it and Kewl Tune Cue to negate Mululu’s effect. Strom entered the Battle Phase and attacked Ye’s Life Points directly with Gulamel, then ended his turn.

Ye began by activating Duelist Genesis and searching for Synchro Overtake! He then activated Overtake, Special Summoning Kewl Tune Mix from the Deck and adding Kewl Tune Cue from the Graveyard back to hand. Here, Strom activated the effectsof Dracotail Faimena and Gulamel, destroying Ye’s JJ “Kewl Tune”, then using Gulamel and Dracotail Pan to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion! He activated Arthalion’s effect, returning Dracotail Faimena to hand, as well as Pan’s effect to Set Rahu Dracotail to his backrow and destroying Ye’s Mix. Ye then Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Cue and Special Summoned Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck, then used Reco’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Mix. He used Cue on the field and Red Nova from hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, then used Track Maker’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Cue and Red Nova to Special Summon Kewl Tune Reco, as Strom brought Gulamel back to the field. Next, Ye used Reco on the field and Mix from hand  to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS! He activated Reco’s effect to destroy Strom’s face-down Rahu and proceeded to the Battle Phase, using RS to attack and destroy Gulamel. In Main Phase 2, he used Cue from hand and Reco on the field to make Kewl Tune Loudness War, then ended his turn.

Strom drew King of the Swamp for turn! He activated its effect, discarding it to search for Polymerization. However, Ye activated the effect of Loudness War, banishing Track Maker to return Dracotail Arthalion to the Extra Deck. Without the ability to make anymore plays, Strom conceded the first Duel. 

Duel 2

Strom opened with Dracotail Pan, D.D. Crow, Dracotail Mululu, Rahu Dracotail, and Gameciel the Sea Turtle Kaiju. He began by activating Rahu Dracotail, using Dracotail Urgula from his Deck and Dracotail Pan from hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion! He returned Pan to hand, then Set Dracotail Flame and Ketu Dracotail to his backrow. Next, he activated Ketu, searching for Dracotail Lukias, then Normal Summoned Lukias to search for Dracotail Faimena. He activated the effect of Dracotail Faimena, using Dracotail Mululu from hand and Lukias from the field to Fusion Summon Secreterion Dragon, then Set Dracotail Sting and Dracotail Horn to his backrow. Finally, he activated Urgula’s effect, adding Dracotail Faimena back to hand, then used Secreterion’s effect to Special Summon back Mululu, and ended his turn. 

Ye started by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Clip, but Strom activated Dracotail Horn, returning Clip to Ye’s hand! Ye knew that he was unable to break through Strom’s board, and conceded the second Duel. 

Duel 3

Strom’s opening hand contained Shaddoll Squamata, D.D. Crow, Dracotail Lukias, Dark Ruler No More, and Dracotail Horn. 

Ye started by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Cue and Special Summoning Red Nova from the Deck! He used the two to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker; he banished Dracotail Urgula from the top of Strom’s Deck, Special Summoned Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck, and added JJ “Kewl Tune” to hand. He activated Reco’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Mix, then activated JJ “Kewl Tune”. Next, he used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Kewl Tune Mix and search for Kewl Tune Cue, then used Reco on the field and Infernoid Decatron from hand to Synchro Summon another Track Maker!

Ye used the two copies of Track Maker to Synchro Summon Visas Amritara and search for Mannadium Reframing, then activated JJ “Kewl Tune”’s effect, Tributing Amritara to Special Summon Kewl Tune Cue from his Deck. He used Cue and Mix on the field to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix, Set two cards to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Strom drew Dracotail Urgula for turn! During the Draw Phase, Ye activated the effect of Kewl Tune Remix, Tributing it; Strom activated the effect of D.D. Crow in hand, banishing Infernoid Decatron from Ye’s Graveyard, as Ye Special Summoned Kewl Tune Cue and added Red Nova back to hand, then used the two to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker. He banished Dracotail Flame from the top of Strom’s Deck, Special Summoned Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck, and searched for Kewl Tune Synchro, then activated Reco’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Clip. 

In Main Phase 1, Strom Normal Summoned Dracotail Lukias and activated its effect; however, Ye responded with the effect of Herald of Orange Light, discarding it and Kewl Tune Cue to negate Lukias’ effect! Strom didn’t have any further plays, so he conceded. 

With the victory, Ye improves to 8-0 in the Genesys Proto-YCS!
