This is the final Swiss round of the Genesys Proto-YCS at the 300th YCS in Richmond, Virginia! Each of these Duelists is hoping to make it to the Top Cut, and a victory here would go a long way in helping them to achieve that. In this Feature Match, we have Matthew David Sevush playing the Monarch Deck, facing off against Edwin Martin Strom iV playing the Shaddoll Dracotail Deck. It’s time to Duel! 

Duel 1

Sevush opened with Strike of the Monarchs, Pot of Greed, and 3 copies of The Monarchs Stormforth. 

Strom won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by activating Rahu Dracotail, using Dracotail Lukias from Deck and Dracotail Faimena from hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion! He added Faimena back to hand and Set Ketu Dracotail and Dracotail Flame to his backrow. Next, he Normal Summoned Dracotail Phryxul, Special Summoning Lukias from the Graveyard and adding Phryxul back to hand, then searched for Dracotail Mululu! Strom activated Ketu searching for Dracotail Urgula, then activated Polymerization, using Dracotail Phryxul and Mululu to Fusion Summon Secreterion Dragon! He Set Dracotail Sting and Dracotail Horn to his backrow, activated the effect of Secreterion Dragon, Special Summoning Dracotail Mululu from the Graveyard, then ended his turn. 

Sevush began his turn by activating Pot of Greed, but Strom Chained Dracotail Flame, negating its effect! Without any way to push through Strom’s board, Sevush conceded.

Duel 2

Sevush opened with Pot of Greed,  Edea the Heavenly Squire, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, and two copies of Pantheism of the Monarchs. He started by activating Pantheism of the Monarchs, discarding his other Pantheism to draw 2 cards. He then banished Pantheism from his Graveyard to add Revolt to hand. Next, he activated Revolt, discarding Edea the Heavenly Squire and adding Eidos the Underworld Monarch to hand. This allowed him to activate Edea’s effect, adding Pantheism back to hand. He then activated Pot of Greed, which allowed him to draw 2 cards from his Deck! 

Sevush banished Revolt from the Graveyard to Special Summon Edea, then Special Summon Eidos the Underworld Squire from his Deck. He added Erebus the Underworld Monarch, which was sent to the Graveyard by the effect of Revolt, from his Graveyard back to hand, then Tribute Summoned it, sending The Prime Monarch and The Monarchs Masterplan to the Graveyard to return a card from Strom’s hand to the Deck. He then Special Summoned Eidos the Underworld Monarch from the Graveyard and searched for Monarchic Perfection! Serush Special Summoned Tessera the Primal Squire from hand, then Tributed Erebus to Tribute Summon Ehther the Heavenly Monarch! He activated its effect to Special Summon another Ehther the Heavenly Monarch from the Deck, then discarded Pantheism to add Erebus back to hand. He activated Tenacity of the Monarchs to search for The Monarchs Stormforth, then Tributed Ehther to Tribute Summon Erebus the Underworld Monarch once again and returned another card from Strom’s hand back to the Deck. Finally, he Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn. During the End Phase, he added Ehther from the field back to hand!

Strom started his turn by activating the effect of King of the Swamp, adding Polymerization to his hand. He then activated it, using Shaddoll Beast and Dracotail Faimena from hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion! He activated Arthalion’s effect to return Sevush’s Erebus to hand, as well as using Shaddoll Beast‘s effect to draw a card and Faimena’s effect to Set Rahu Dracotail to his backrow, while Sevush used Perfection to banish a card from Strom’s hand. In the following Chain, Sevush activated the effect of the banished Masterplan, searching for Granmarg the Rock Monarch and immediately Tribute Summoning it, then using its effect to destroy Strom’s face-down Ketu. This allowed him to Special Summon Eidos the Underworld Monarch from the Graveyard and search for Ehther the Heavenly Monarch! Sevush then activated The Monarchs Stormforth, then activated the effect of Ehther, Tributing Strom’s Arthalion and his own Tessera to Tribute Summon Ehther the Heavenly Monarch. Strom followed up by activating Rahu Dracotail, using Dracotail Faimena from hand and Dracotail Urgula from Deck to Fusion Summon Dracotail Gulamel. Strom Special Summoned back Arthalion from the Graveyard, and used Urgula’s effect to Set Ketu Dracotail and destroy Sevush’s Perfection, after Sevush used Perfection to return Arthalion to Sevush’ s Extra Deck.

Strom then activated Ketu Dracotail, searching for Dracotail Lukias, then Normal Summoned Lukias and searched for Dracotail Mululu. He activated Urgula’s effect to add Faimena back to hand, then activated Faimena’s effect, using Lukias and Mululu to Fusion Summon Secreterion Dragon! He Set Dracotail Flame and Dracotail Sting to his backrow and proceeded to the Battle Phase! He used Arthalion to attack Ehther and Secreterion to attack Granmarg, then in Main Phase 2, activated Secreterion’s effect to Special Summon Dracotail Mululu, and ended his turn. 

Serush drew Pot of Greed for turn! He started off by banishing The Monarchs Masterplan from the Graveyard to try and Special Summon The Prime Monarch, but Strom Chained Dracotail Sting, banishing Prime and Ehther from Serush’s Graveyard. Next, Serush activated the effect of the banished Masterplan, adding Granmarg the Rock Monarch to hand, then Tribute Summoning it and destroying Strom’s face-down Dracotail Flame. In the Main Phase, he banished Pantheism of the Monarchs from the Graveyard to add Tenacity of the Monarchs to hand, then activated Tenacity to search for The Monarchs Stormforth. Here, Strom activated the effect of Dracotail Mululu, using Mululu and Shaddoll Hedgehog to Fusion Summon Dracotail Gulamel. He set Ketu Dracotail to the backrow and searched for Shaddoll Squamata as Sevush used The Monarchs Stormforth to prevent Strom from activating the effect of Gulamel! Sevush Special Summoned Edea from the Graveyard and activated its effect to Special Summon Tessera from the Deck, then Tributed Strom’s Secreterion and his own Edea to Tribute Summon Erebus the Underworld Monarch. He Special Summoned Eidos the Underworld Monarch from the Graveyard and used Erebus’ effect to return a card from Strom’s hand to the Deck, then searched for another copy of Monarchs Masterplan. Finally, he activated Pot of Greed, drawing Strike of the Monarchs and The Monarchs Stormforth! Serush activated Strike, Tributing Erebus to draw a card, discarded Prime to add Erebus back to hand, then banished Stormforth from the Graveyard to Special Summon The Prime Monarch. He Tribute Summoned Erebus the Underworld Monarch and activated its effect to return Strom’s Arthalion to the Deck, then proceeded to the Battle Phase! He used Erebus to attack Gulamel, then attacked Strom’s Life Points direclty with Granmarg and Eidos, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn.

Strom started his turn by activating Cosmic Cyclone, banishing Serush’s face-down The Monarchs Masterplan! He activated Rahu Dracotail, searching for Dracotail Phryxul, then Normal Summoned Phryxul and Special Summoned Dracotail Lukias from the Graveyard while returning Phryxul back to hand. He activated Lukias’ effect to search for Dracotail Faimena, then activated Faimena’s effect, using Phryxul and Lukias to Fusion Summon Dracotail Shaulas. He Special Summoned Dracotail Gulamel from the Graveyard and Set two copies of Rahu Dracotail to his backrow, as Serush Special Summoned The Prime Monarch by banishing The Monarchs Masterplanfrom the Graveyard. Here, Sevush searched for and then Tribute Summoned Mobius the Frost Monarch, activating its effect to destroy Strom’s two face-down cards, and Special Summoned Eidos the Underworld Monarch. Strom activated the effect of Shaulas, targeting his own Flame and Sting, as well as Sevush’s Prime, but Sevush Chained the effect of Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, Tributing Prime and Eidos to Tribute Summon Ehther. Strom entered the Battle Phase and attacked Granmarg with Gulamel, then ended his turn.

Serush drew Erebus the Underworld Monarch for turn! He activated The Monarchs Stormforth, then Tributed his own Mobius and Strom’s Dracotail Gulamel to Tribute Summon Ehther the Heavenly Monarch. With that, Strom new that he would not be able to defend his Life Points any further, and conceded the second Duel. 

Duel 3

Strom started by activating Ketu Dracotail, searching for Dracotail Lukias, then Normal Summoned Lukias and searched for Dracotail Faimena. He then activated Rahu Dracotail, using Dracotail Urgula from Deck and Faimena from hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion! He added Faimena back to hand and Set Dracotail Sting and Dracotail Flame to his backrow. Next, Strom activated the effect of King of the Swamp, searching for Polymerization, then activated it, using Arthalion and Lukias to Fusion Summon Secreterion Dragon and Setting Ketu Dracotail to his backrow. Next, he activated Secreterion Dragon’s effect, Special Summoning Dracotail Lukias from the Graveyard, then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.

Sevush opened with The Prime Monarch, Mobius the Frost Monarch, Tenacity of the Monarchs, Pantheism of the Monarchs, and Granmarg the Rock Monarch, and he drew Eidos the Underworld Monarch for turn! He started by activating Tenacity of the Monarchs, but Strom Chained Dracotail Flame, negating it. Next, he activated Pantheism, discarding Prime and drawing Ultimate Slayer and another copy of Tenacity of the Monarchs. Here, Strom activated Dracotail Sting, targeting Pantheism, but Sevush Chained The Prime Monarch, Special Summoning it out of the Graveyard by banishing Pantheism. Next, Sevush activated Ultimate Slayer, sending Garura, Wings of Resonant Life from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard and returning Strom’s Secreterion Dragon to the Extra Deck and allowing him to draw a card. He activated The Monarchs Stormforth, and afterwards, Strom activated Dracotail Horn, returning his Lukias to hand and drawing a card. Sevush Tributed The Prime Monarch to Tribute Summon Eidos the Underworld Monarch and search for Pantheism of the Monarchs, then activated Pantheism to draw 2 cards! On resolution, Strom activated the effect of D.D. Crow, banishing Pantheism from Sevush’s Graveyard. Sevush proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked Strom’s LIfe Points directly with Eidos, then ended his turn. 

Strom began his turn by activating Ketu Dracotail and searching for Dracotail Mululu. He then used Mululu and Dracotail Pan to Fusion Summon Secreterion Dragon while Setting Dracotail Flame and Ketu Dracotail to his backrow. Next, he Normal Summoned Dracotail Phryxul and Special Summoned Dracotail Lukias from the Graveyard. Sevush realized that he was not going to be able to stop Strom from assembling a field full of Spellcasters and Dragons, so he conceded.

Strom takes the win, and finishes the Swiss rounds with a 10-1 record!
