It’s Round 7 here at the 300th YCS in Richmond, Virginia, and these Duelists are hoping to make it to Day 2. They each have a 5-1 record going into Round 7, so they’ll need to keep on winning in order to give themselves the best possible chances. These Duelists are playing Decks that we’ve seen consistently at the top tables all weekend, with Craig Shun Hayashi playing Vanquish Soul K9, and Noah John Collins Provost playing Radiant Typhoon. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Provost’s opening hand contained Radiant Typhoon Krosea, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Radiant Typhoon Chant, Radiant Typhoon Eldam, and Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex. 

Hayashi won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by activating Stake Your Soul!, revealing Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger, and Provost Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Hayashi Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love and searched for Vanquish Soul, Start!, as Provost drew a card. Next, Hayashi activated Start! and used its effect to search for Vanquish Soul Razen. He Normal Summoned Razen and searched for Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue, then Special Summoned K9-17 Izuna from hand and sent K9-ØØ Lupis to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned back Lupis, then used Lupis and Izuna to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”! Hayashi activated Ripper’s effect, searching for K9-66a Jokul and Setting K9-X Forced Release to his backrow. He returned Razen back to hand and Special Summoned Heavy Borger, revealing Jokul in hand to draw a card, then activated “A Case for K9” to search for another copy of K9-17 Izuna. In the End Phase, he returned Mad Love to hand and discarded Mulcharmy Fuwalos before ending his turn. 

Provost started the turn in the Draw Phase by activating Radiant Typhoon Chant and searching for Mystical Space Typhoon! He then activated Mystical Space Typhoon, destroying Hayashi’s Forced Release. Provost activated the effect of Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex, Special Summoning it; Hayashi attempted to negate it with the effect of Ripper, but Provost followed up by activating Forbidden Droplet, sending Fuwalos and Noble Knight’s Shield Bearer to the Graveyard to negate the effects of Hayashi’s monsters! Afterwards, Provost Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Krosea and searched for Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame. He Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Eldam, searching for Radiant Typhoon Swen, as Hayashi Special Summoned both K9-17 Izuna and K9-ØØ Lupis to the field! He used Izuna’s effect to send K9-04 Noroi from his Deck to the Graveyard, then activated the effect of Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius, returning Heavy Borger to his hand! He used Caesar Valius’ effect, destroying Provost’s Varuroon, then activated the effect of Lupis, using it and Izuna to Xyz Summon N.As.H. Knight! He activated N.As.H. Knight’s effect, attaching Provost’s Krosea to it as Xyz Material. Provost Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Swen, searching for another copy of Radiant Typhoon Chant, then used Eldam and Swen to Link Summon Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon and search for Mystical Space Typhoon. Here, Hayashi activated the effect of Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue, Special Summoning it from hand, as Provost used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Hayashi’s Case. In the following Chain, Hayashi activated Hollie Sue’s effect to Special Summon Vanquish Soul Razen from the Deck, as Provost Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame and placed Radiant Typhoon Mandate to his backrow. Hayashi used Razen’s effect to search for Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love, then used Razen’s effect to try and destroy Provost’s Varuroon, but Provost negated it with Varuroon’s effect! 

Provost activated Radiant Typhoon Chant, this time searching for Radiant Typhoon Meghala, then activated Fonix’s effect, attempting to return N.As.H. Knight and Hollie Sue to Hayashi’s Deck. However, Hayashi activated the effect of Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger in hand, returning Hollie Sue to hand, so only N.As.H. Knight was removed from the field. Provost used Mandate’s effect to return 3 Quick-Play Spell Cards to the Deck to draw a card. He then used the effect of Varuroon to place Varuroon and Hayashi’s Caesar Valius to the Spell/Trap Zone, and entered the Battle Phase. Here, Hayashi activated Heavy Borger’s effect to draw a card, then Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Jiaolong. When Fonix attacked, Hayashi used Jiaolong’s effect to turn Fonix to Defense Position. In Main Phase 2, Provost Special Summoned Meghala and Set a card to his backrow, then ended his turn. 

Hayashi started his turn by activating the effect of Start!, targeting his Heavy Borger; however, Provost activated Mystical Space Typhoon as Chain Link 2, destroying Start!, and used Mandate’s effect to negate the effect of Borger. Provost used Fonix’s effect to try and return Hayashi’s Jiaolong and Heavy Borger to the Deck; Hayashi Chained the effect of Jiaolong, but Provost negated it with the effect of Varuroon! Afterwards, Provost Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Krosea, but when he activated its effect, Hayashi Chained Called by the Grave, banishing the Krosea from Provost’s Graveyard! 

Hayashi next activated the effect of K9-66a Jokul, Special Summoning it and Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue from hand. He activated Jokul’s effect to search for K9-66b Lantern, then activated Hollie Sue’s effect to Special Summon another Vanquish Soul Razen; in response, Provost activated the effect of Shiina, Special Summoning it and returning all other monsters on the field to the hand, as Hayashi resolved Razen’s effect to search for Heavy Borger. Next, Hayashi used K9-66b Lantern’s effect to Special Summon it and K9-04 Noroi, then used the two to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He activated Ripper’s effect to search for another copy of K9-04 Noroi, then Normal Summoned K9-04 Noroi and Special Summoned K9-17 Izuna from the Deck. He used Izuna and Noroi to Xyz Summon K9-66X “Jacks”, and activated its effect to destroy Provost’s Shiina. Hayashi Special Summoned Hollie Sue from hand, then returned it to the hand and Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger from hand. Finally, he Special Summoned Lupis from the Graveyard and proceeded to the Battle Phase. With a field full of monsters, Hayashi attacked Provost’s Life Points directly and won the first Duel! 

Duel 2

Provost opened with The Fallen & The Virtuous, Shiina, Twin Tempests of Celestial Thunder, Mystical Space Typhoon, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Radiant Typhoon Eldam. He started off by Special Summoning Radiant Typhoon Eldam, searching for Radiant Typhoon Krosea. He then Tribute Summoned Radiant Typhoon Krosea, searching for Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Swen. He Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Swen, but when he activated its effect, he was met by Hayashi’s Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill! Provost used Swen and Krosea to Link Summon Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon and search for Mystical Space Typhoon. He Set a copy of Mystical Space Typhoon, then activated another Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it. This allowed him to use the effect of Varuroon to place Radiant Typhoon Mandate to his Spell/Trap Zone! Finally, he Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Hayashi began his turn by Normal Summoning Vanquish Soul Razen, but when he activated its effect, Provost Chained Mystical Space Typhoon, targeting Mandate, then Chained Mandate’s effect to negate Razen’s effect! On resolution, Provost activated the effect of Varuroon to place Mandate back to his Spell/Trap Zone. Afterwards, Hayashi used Razen to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher and add Razen back to hand. Next, Hayashi activated Stake Your Soul!, revealing Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love, but it was met by the effect of Provost’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Here, Hayashi Special Summoned K9-17 Izuna from hand and sent K9-ØØ Lupis to the Graveyard, but when he activated its effect, Provost responded with the effect of Shiina, Twin Tempests of Celestial Thunder! All other monsters were returned to the hand as Shiina was Special Summoned, then Hayashi Special Summoned Lupis, and Hayashi ended his turn. 

Provost drew a card for turn, then proceeded straight to the Battle Phase. He used Shiina to attack and destroy Lupis, then ended his turn. 

Hayashi Normal Summoned Vanquish Soul Razen and activated its effect, searching for Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue, then used Razen to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher. He added Razen back to hand, then Special Summoned Hollie Sue and used its effect to Special Summon Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius from the Deck. He activated Caesar’s effect, destroying Mandate, as Provost used The Fallen & The Virtuous to destroy Caesar. Hayashi then activated Chaotic Elements, searching for K9-66a Jokul, then activated Jokul’s effect to Special Summon it and K9-04 Noroi from hand. He used Noroi and Hollie Sue to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He used Jokul’s effect to search for Lantern, as well as Ripper’s effect to search for “A Case for K9”. He then used Lantern’s effect to Special Summon it and Noroi, then used Jokul and Lantern to Xyz Summon K9-66X “Jacks” and destroy Provost’s Shiina. Finally, he activated K9-X Forced Release to Xyz Summon K9-X “Werewolf” and went to the Battle Phase. He wiped out the rest of Provost’s Life Points to win the second Duel!

With the victory, Hashi’s record improves to 6-1!
