300th YCS in Richmond: General Tech Update
There are many decks performing well here at YCS Richmond, using strategies such as Dracotail, Mitsurugi, and Radiant Typhoon! Each Duelist has selected different tech cards to incorporate into their Decks, hoping to give them a competitive edge this weekend. Here are some of the interesting tech cards that are seeing play!
Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure is a Continuous Spell Card that has proven to be a strong Side Deck option this weekend! While it’s face-up on the field, any monster sent to the Graveyard is banished instead. Against Dracotail, this card can be very powerful; Dracotail monsters have effects that can be activated if they’re sent to the Graveyard as Fusion Material, so banishing them instead can put them into a tricky spot. Of course, they can still attempt to use cards like Khaos Starsource Dragon to try and destroy it, but committing to a Fusion Summon would leave them with limited resources! Dimensional Fissure can be a solid option against other Decks, as well; Yummy cards such as Yummy☆Surprise and Lollipo☆Yummy Way can’t Special Summon back monsters from the Graveyard, and The Fallen & The VIrtuous can’t send a monster from the Extra Deck to the Graveyard, either! It’s definitely a powerful card that Dracotail Duelists will need to be prepared for; cards like Mystical Space Typhoon, Harpie’s Feather Duster, or Cosmic Cyclone are interesting tech cards that could see more play to try and counter Dimensional Fissure.
Dinowrestler Pankratops
Dinowrestler Pankratops is a very powerful monster! You can Special Summon it from hand if your opponent controls more monsters than you do, and you can Tribute a “Dinowrestler” monster to target one card your opponent controls and destroy it. This weekend, we’ve seen Pankratops being used in a number of Dracotail Decks, as a way to destroy the aforementioned Dimensional Fissure! With 2600 Attack Points, it provides immediate on-field presence, able to deal with cards like I:P Masquerena and S:P Little Knight on its own. And in Duels where your opponent doesn’t control any monsters, you can simply use Pankratops as Fusion Material from the hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion and Dracotail Gulamel! However, since Pankratops can only be Special Summoned if your opponent controls more monsters than you do, we’ve mainly seen it in the Side Deck this weekend. It’s a powerful monster that can put a ton of pressure on your opponent, so even if you feel safe with Dimensional Fissure on the field, Pankratops is a card that you should try and be sure you have an answer for!
Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill
Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill has an effect that can be very disruptive. If your opponent Special Summons a monster, you can discard Ghost Mourner to negate the Special Summoned monster’s effect, and if that monster leaves the field this turn, its controller takes damage equal to its original ATK. This card has become a popular Side Deck option against the Radiant Typhoon Deck. In the past, we’ve seen Effect Veiler as a popular option in Dracotail, as it can be used as Fusion Material, and then added back to hand with the effect of Dracotail Arthalion. However, the effect of Effect Veiler can only be activated in the Main Phase, while Ghost Mourner’s effect can be activated whenever a monster is Special Summoned! In the current format, there are many ways that Duelists can Special Summon monsters outside of the Main Phase, with cards like Radiant Typhoon Krosea and Fallen of Albaz being very accessible in their respective strategies. Just like with other monsters, Ghost Mourner can be used as Fusion Material in the Dracotail Deck; just keep in mind that Ghost Mourner is a Wind Monster, so your opponent may try to Special Summon it with Wynn the Wind Charmer, Verdant!
These are just a few of the interesting tech choices that players are using this weekend at the 300th YCS in Virginia. Keep an eye on the coverage all weekend long to see what tech cards are helping Duelists make their way to the top tables!
