Cristian Urena from Reading, Pennsylvania has won 6 YCS events and competed in last year’s MASTER DUEL World Championship. Gabriel Braithwaite from Charlotte, North Carolina has made it to the Top Cut of about a dozen YCS tournaments, but hasn’t yet secured a win. Now, these 2 Duelists are facing off in the Top 32 of YCS Vancouver, and only one of them can advance to the Top 16! Urena is using a K9 Vanquish Soul Deck, and Braithwaite is using a Yummy Deck. Both of these strategies were popular this weekend and have proven their strength at YCS Vancouver – but only one of these Duelists will be able to take the Deck he’s using to the Top 16. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Braithwaite started off the Match by activating Obedience Schooled and Urena negated it by activating the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

Braithwaite Normal Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy next and Urena activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Braithwaite Link Summoned Yummy★Snatchy, allowing Urena to draw a card, and then used its effect to place Yummyusment☆Mignon in his Field Spell Card Zone. He used its effect to Special Summon Cooky and then Synchro Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way, allowing Urena to draw another card. He activated its effect to add Lollipo☆Yummy and Cupsy☆Yummy to his hand then discarded the Lollipo. Next, he Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy from his hand and used its effect to add Yummy☆Surprise to his hand. He Set 3 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Urena drew Stake your Soul! for his turn and added it to his hand of Pot of Extravagance, Vanquish Soul Razen, K9-ØØ Lupis, Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He activated Pot of Extravagance by banishing 6 random cards from his Extra Deck face-down and then drew another Ash Blossom and a Vanquish Soul Jiaolong from his Deck. He activated the Stake your Soul! by revealing Lupis, prompting Braithwaite to Chain his Cupsy★Yummy Way’s effect. He returned it to his Extra Deck and Special Summoned Snatchy and Cooky from his Graveyard. Urena resolved Stake your Soul! to Special Summon Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius from his Deck and then Braithwaite activated the effects of Snatchy and Cooky. Urena Chained his Caesar Valius’s effect by revealing an EARTH, FIRE, and DARK monster from his hand and destroyed Snatchy before his Caesar Valius was destroyed by Cooky’s effect. Braithwaite placed Yummyusment★Acroquey from his Deck into his Field Spell Zone with Snatchy’s effect. In a new Chain, Urena activated the effect of Jiaolong in his hand to Special Summon it, and Braithwaite Chained Yummy☆Surprise to Special Summon a Cupsy. Urena revealed 2 Ash Blossoms from his hand to activate Jiaolong’s effect and Braithwaite Chained Infinite Impermanence to target the Jiaolong. Urena Chained Heavy Borger’s effect by targeting Jiaolong to try to return Jiaolong to his hand and Special Summon Heavy Borger; but Braithwaite Chained another Infinite Impermanence targeting Jiaolong to make sure its effect would be negated. After its effect was negated by the second Impermanence, Urena returned it to his hand and Special Summoned the Heavy Borger in Attack Position. He Normal Summoned Vanquish Soul Razen next and activated its effect, and Braithwaite Chained Snatchy’s effect and paid 100 Life Points to Tune Snatchy with Cupsy to Synchro Summon Cooky★Yummy Way. Urena resolved Razen’s effect by adding Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue from his Deck to his hand. In a new Chain, Braithwaite used the effect of Cooky★Yummy Way to target both of Urena’s monsters and put them face-down. Urena Chained Heavy Borger’s effect by revealing Hollie Sue and Ash Blossom to inflict 1500 points of damage to Braithwaite’s Life Points. He then Chained Hollie Sue’s effect to Special Summon it to his field by revealing Jiaolong from his hand, and then his Razen and Heavy Borger went face-down. Urena used Hollie Sue as an Xyz Material to Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis next and attacked Cooky★Yummy Way to destroy it and drop Braithwaite down to 6600 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he activated TY-PHON’s effect to return his own face-down Razen to his hand.

Braithwaite activated the effect of Yummyusment☆Mignon in his Graveyard to return it to his Deck along with a Cooky and a Snatchy. Then he used his on-field Cooky to Link Summon Snatchy and Special Summoned a Cooky from his hand. He used Cooky’s effect to lower TY-PHON’s ATK by 1000. He Tuned Cooky with Snatchy to Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way and used Acroquey’s effect to destroy Heavy Borger. He used the effect of Cupsy★Yummy Way to add Cupsy and Lollipo from his Deck to his hand and discard Lollipo. He Special Summoned the Cupsy next and activated its effect. Urena Chained Ash Blossom and Braithwaite Chained Cupsy★Yummy Way’s effect to Special Summon a Cooky and Snatchy from his Graveyard. He used Snatchy’s effect to replace his Field Spell Card with Yummyusment☆Mignon and then activated Triple Tactics Talent to take control of TY-PHON. Direct attacks from his Yummy monsters with their ATK boosted by Yummyusment☆Mignon and from TY-PHON wiped out all 8000 of Urena’s Life Points!

Duel Two

Urena opened up Duel 2 with Stake your Soul!, Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue, Vanquish Soul Snow Devil, Reinforcement of the Army, and Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay.

He activated Reinforcement of the Army, but lost out to Ash Blossom. Next, he activated Stake your Soul! by revealing Phantazmay from his hand and Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from his Deck. He activated its effect, but Braithwaite Chained Dominus Purge to negate it. Urena sent Mad Love to the Graveyard to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher and used its effect to return Mad Love from his Graveyard to his hand. He Set Snow Devil before ending his turn.

Braithwaite activated Obedience Schooled and Special Summoned Cupsy, Cooky, and Lollipo from his Deck. He sent Cupsy to the Graveyard to Link Summon Snatchy and activated its effect. Urena Chained Phantazmay’s effect in his hand, and Braithwaite Chained Snatchy’s effect to Tune it with Lollipo and Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way. Urena drew a card after Summoning Phantazmay thanks to its effect and Braithwaite placed Acroquey in his Field Spell Zone with Snatchy’s effect. Braithwaite used the effect of Cupsy★Yummy Way to add Cupsy and Cooky to his hand and discard Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones. He Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy from his hand next and used its effect to add Yummyusment☆Mignon from his Deck to his hand. He Tuned Cupsy☆Yummy with Cupsy★Yummy Way to Synchro Summon THE Star Ham and activated the effects of Acroquey and Star Ham. Acroquey targeted Snow Devil to destroy it and Urena Chained it by revealing Mad Love and Hollie Sue from his hand to inflict 1000 points of damage to Braithwaite. Braithwaite Special Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way with Star Ham’s effect. He activated Yummyusment☆Mignon from his hand next and then sent The Star Ham to the Graveyard to Link Summon another Snatchy. He used Mignon’s effect to Special Summon a Lollipo from his Graveyard and then entered his Battle Phase. In the Battle Phase, he activated Yummy☆Surprise to Special Summon Cooky from his hand. He activated its effect and targeted Phantazmay to try to reduce its Attack Points, and when Urena activated Phantazmay’s effect to negate the Cooky’s effect and destroy Cooky, Braithwaite Chained Cupsy★Yummy Way’s effect to Special Summon a Lollipo and a Snatchy from his Graveyard by returning Cupsy★Yummy Way to his Extra Deck. Attacks from Braithwaite’s 5 Yummy monsters, each boosted by 2500 ATK due to the effect of Yummyusment☆Mignon, wiped out Phantazmay, Rock of the Vanquisher, and the rest of Urena’s Life Points.
