Round 9 Feature Match: Jeri McKee vs. Ethan Wagner

Jeri McKee from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is currently 7-1 with a Mitsurugi Live☆Twin Fiendsmith Deck, cosplaying as EvilTwin Lil-la. Now, she’s facing off against Ethan Wagner from Hull, Massachusetts and his Bystial @Ignister Maliss Deck. Both of these Duelists will make it into Day 2 regardless of the result of this Match, but with tomorrow’s competition ultimately cutting down to a Top 8, every Swiss Round victory will be critical to the competitors’ overall success in the tournament. Duel One

 

Wagner started off Duel 1 by activating Maliss in Underground and using its effect to banish Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck.

 

 

He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it to his field and then activated its on-field effect to banish Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck and increase his monsters’ ATK for the turn. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon White Rabbit from banishment and then used its effect to Set Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck to his field. He Normal Summoned Maliss <P> Chessy Cat next and then sent his 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom. He used Red Ransom’s effect to add Maliss in the Mirror from his Deck to his hand, prompting McKee to activate the effect of the Droll & Lock Bird in her hand. Next, Wagner flipped TB-11 by banishing Red Ransom as a cost, and McKee negated its effect by activating the effect of the Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring in her hand. Wagner paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Red Ransom from banishment with its effect and banish Maliss <P> March Hare from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to return March Hare to his hand from banishment. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

 

McKee drew Fiendsmith Engraver and added it to her hand of Mitsurugi Prayers, LiveTwin Ki-sikil Frost, and Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi. She activated Prayers in the Draw Phase by Tributing Murakumo from her hand and Wagner Chained Dominus Impulse to negate it. In a new Chain, McKee used Murakumo’s effect to try to add a card from her Deck to her hand, but lost out to Ash Blossom. McKee discarded Engraver from her hand to activate its effect and add Fiendsmith’s Tract from her Deck to her hand next. She activated Tract to add Fabled Lurrie from her Deck to her hand and then discard it. She used Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it and then sent Lurrie to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. She activated its effect by Tributing it and Special Summoned Lacrima the Crimson Tears from her Deck. She activated its effect to send an Engraver from her Deck to her Graveyard and then used the effect of an Engraver in her Graveyard to Special Summon it by returning a Lurrie from her Graveyard to her Deck. Next, Wagner flipped Super Polymerization by discarding March Hare! He fused Engraver with Lacrima to Special Summon Garura, Wings of Resonant Life. McKee Normal Summoned LiveTwin Ki-sikil Frost next and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon EvilTwin Ki-sikil Deal. Wagner activated Maliss in the Mirror to target Ki-Sikil Deal and negate its effect by banishing Red Ransom. He paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Red Ransom back to the field and banish White Rabbit from his Deck. He used White Rabbit’s effect to Set Maliss <C> MTP-07 and then activated it by banishing White Rabbit. He added a March Hare from his Deck to his hand and banished the Ki-sikil Deal. With that, McKee conceded.

Duel Two

 

McKee opened up Duel 2 with Mitsurugi no Mikoto Aramasa, LiveTwin Ki-Sikil, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Droll & Lock Bird, and Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion.

 

 

She Normal Summoned Ki-sikil and activated its effect. Wagner Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos and McKee Special Summoned LiveTwin Lil-la. Wagner drew a card and McKee activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird in her hand to prevent Wagner from drawing any more. Next, she sent Ki-sikil to the Graveyard to Link Summon EvilTwin Ki-sikil Deal. She used Ki-sikil Deal’s effect to send LiveTwin Lil-la Sweet from her Deck to her Graveyard. She Special Summoned Sweet from her Graveyard with its effect and then sent Ki-sikil Deal to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. She activated Requiem’s effect by Tributing it, and Wagner negated its effect with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, she sent her two Live☆Twin monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon EvilTwin Lil-la. She then used Lil-la’s effect to Special Summon Ki-sikil Deal from the Graveyard. She sent both monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon EvilTwin Ki-sikil and used its effect to Special Summon EvilTwin Lil-la. Next, she sent EvilTwin Ki-sikil and EvilTwin Lil-la to the Graveyard to Link Summon EvilTwin’s Trouble Sunny. She activated its effect by Tributing it to Special Summon EvilTwin Ki-sikil and EvilTwin Lil-la back from the Graveyard. Next, she sent Lil-la and Ki-sikil to the Graveyard to Link Summon A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow. She discarded Aramasa from her hand to activate its effect. She banished A Bao A Qu until the End Phase and Special Summoned EvilTwin’s Trouble Sunny from her Graveyard. In the End Phase, A Bao A Qu returned to the field.

 

Wagner drew a card and then activated Allure of Darkness, but lost out to McKee’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he activated the effect of the Bystial Baldrake in his hand, targeting Fiendsmith’s Requiem in McKee’s Graveyard. McKee negated Baldrake’s effect by activating the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. Wagner Set a monster and then entered his End Phase. In the End Phase, McKee used Trouble Sunny’s effect to Special Summon Evil Twin★Ki-sikil and Evil★Twin Lil-la. She used both of their effects to draw a card and target Wagner’s face-down monster for destruction. Wagner Chained Super Polymerization from his hand by discarding March Hare and fused A Bao A Qu with Lil-la to Summon Garura to his field. McKee drew a card with Ki-sikil’s effect and destroyed the face-down Droll & Lock Bird with Lil-la’s effect.

 

McKee drew Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji and then used Ki-sikil’s effect to Special Summon EvilTwin Lil-la from her Graveyard. She activated the effect of Sweet to try to Special Summon it from her Graveyard and Wagner Chained Baldrake’s effect in his hand to banish the Sweet and Special Summon Baldrake. Next, McKee Special Summoned LiveTwin Ki-sikil Frost from her hand. She Link Summoned Muckraker From the Underworld using Frost and EvilTwin Ki-sikil as Link Materials next and then used EvilTwin Lil-la’s effect to Special Summon EvilTwin Ki-sikil back to the field and draw a card. Next, she activated Muckraker’s effect. She Special Summoned A Bao A Qu and discarded Mitsurugi Great Purification. Wagner tried to banish it with Baldrake’s effect by Tributing Garura, but McKee Chained A Bao A Qu’s effect to banish it until the End Phase by discarding Saji and Special Summoning Requiem from her Graveyard. Wagner resolved his Garura’s effect to draw a card and then promptly conceded, realizing he was defeated.

Duel Three

Wagner started off Duel 3 by Normal Summoning Chessy Cat and activating its effect by banishing Maliss <C> GWC-06 from his hand to draw 2 cards. He sent Chessy Cat to the Graveyard to Link Summon Linguriboh and then activated the effect of Bystial Druiswurm in his hand. He banished Chessy Cat from his Graveyard to Summon the Druiswurm and then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Chessy Cat from banishment. Next, he sent his 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Red Ransom and used Red Ransom’s effect to add Maliss in Underground from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to banish Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck. He activated White Rabbit’s effect to Special Summon it by paying 300 Life Points and then used its on-field effect to Set Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck to his field. He activated TB-11 by banishing Red Ransom and Special Summoned Dormouse from his Deck. He used Red Ransom’s effect to Special Summon it from banishment by paying 900 Life Points and banished March Hare from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to return the banished March Hare to his hand. Next, he sent White Rabbit and Dormouse to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cyberse Wicckid. He activated the effect of March Hare in his hand next, Special Summoning it linked to Wicckid by banishing Dormouse from his Graveyard. He then activated the Wicckid’s effect as Chain Link 1 by banishing Chessy Cat from his Graveyard and used Dormouse’s effect as Chain Link 2 to Special Summon it by paying 300 Life Points. Wicckid added Backup @Ignister from Wagner’s Deck to his hand with its effect. Wagner sent Wicckid and Dormouse to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder and then used White Binder’s effect to Set Maliss <C> MTP-07 from his Deck to his back row. He activated the effect of Backup @Ignister in his hand to Special Summon it next, then used its on-field effect to add Wizard @Ignister from his Deck to his hand and discard a White Rabbit. He sent Red Ransom, Backup, and March Hare to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter and used its effect by returning Maliss <C> GWC-06 from banishment to his Deck. He banished his White Binder and then paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon it back from banishment with its effect and draw a card. He activated the effect of Wizard @Ignister next, Special Summoning it to his field along with a March Hare in his Graveyard. He sent White Binder, Wizard, and March Hare to the Graveyard to Link Summon Allied Code Talker @Ignister next and then used its effect to Special Summon Red Ransom and White Binder from his Graveyard.

 

 

McKee opened up Duel 3 with Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi, Fiendsmith Engraver, Pre-Preparation of Rites, LiveTwin Lil-la, and LiveTwin Lil-la Sweet. She drew Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi and then activated Pre-Preparation of Rites, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, she activated the effect of Engraver in her hand by discarding it. She added Tract from her Deck to her hand and then activated it to add Fabled Lurrie from her Deck to her hand and discard it. She Special Summoned the Lurrie from the Graveyard with its effect and then Wagner activated Hearts Crypter’s effect. He shuffled his banished Chessy Cat into the Deck and banished Lurrie from the Duel. Next, McKee Normal Summoned Lil-la and tried to activate its effect. Wagner Chained Dominus Impulse; McKee Chained Sweet’s effect from her hand to try to negate it; and Wagner Chained Allied Code Talker’s effect by Tributing a monster to negate Sweet’s activation. The Chain resolved, and Lil-la was negated and destroyed. McKee activated Habakiri’s effect to Special Summon Saji next, and Tributed Saji from her field. She used Saji’s effect to add Mitsurugi Ritual from her Deck to her hand and then activated the Mitsurugi Ritual to Special Summon a monster from her hand by Tributing from her Deck. She Tributed Habakiri from her Deck to Special Summon Murakumo and then used the effects of Habakiri and Murakumo in Chain. Wagner Chained MTP-07, and McKee Chained Murakumo’s effect, forcing Wagner to discard Chessy Cat to resolve the effect of his MTP-07. MTP-07 added March Hare to Wagner’s hand and banished Murakumo from the Duel, then Murakumo’s effect wiped out Wagner’s monsters. Habakiri’s effect resolved next, allowing McKee to add Mitsurugi Mirror from her Deck to her hand. Next, Wagner activated the effect of March Hare in his hand. He Special Summoned it by banishing White Binder from his Graveyard and then paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon White Binder from banishment and draw a card. He used its on-field effect to banish Habakiri from McKee’s Graveyard along with Red Ransom and Hearts Crypter from his own Graveyard. He activated the effects of Hearts Crypter and Red Ransom to try to Special Summon them from banishment, and McKee immediately conceded.
