
Round 3 Feature Match: Jesse Kotton vs. Javier Felipe Gelvez
Jesse Kotton from Toronto, Canada is the most accomplished Canadian Duelist. He has a variety of achievements that include 7 YCS victories in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, a MASTER DUEL World Championship victory, and 5 World Championship appearances. Javier Gelvez is a local Duelist from Vancouver, and he’s chasing his first Top Cut finish this weekend. Galvez is off to a good start with a 2-0 record in the tournament, but now he’s paired up against a titan of Dueling, Jesse Kotton, in Round 3 of YCS Vancouver. Both Duelists are using themes from the new Justice Hunters booster set. Kotton is using a Dracotail Deck and Gelvez using K9 cards integrated into the Vanquish Soul strategy. Only one of these Duelists can advance to the next round with a perfect 3-0 record. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Kotton opened up Duel 1 with Dracotail Flame, Dracotail Lukias, Ketu Dracotail, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit.
He activated Ketu Dracotail and added Dracotail Faimena from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Lukias and used its effect to add Dracotail Urgula from his Deck to his hand. He activated Faimena’s effect to fuse Urgula with Lukias and Summon Dracotail Arthalion. He activated the effects of Urgula and Lukias to Set Dracotail Horn and Rahu Dracotail from his Deck, and used Arthalion’s effect to return Lukias from his Graveyard to his hand. He then used Urgula’s effect in the Graveyard to return it to his Deck and add Faimena from his Graveyard to his hand. He Set the Flame and then ended his turn.
Gelvez activated Stake your Soul by revealing Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from his hand and Kotton flipped Dracotail Flame to negate it. He returned Ketu from his Graveyard to his Deck and drew a card. Next, Gelvez Normal Summoned Vanquish Soul Razen and activated its effect, but lost out to Kotton’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Kotton Chained Dracotail Horn to his Ash Blossom to return Razen to Gelvez’s hand. He returned another Dracotail card from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw a card with Horn’s effect. Gelvez Summoned K9-17 Izuna next and activated its effect, but Kotton destroyed it with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Gelvez sent K9-ØØ Lupis to his Graveyard with its effect and then activated the effect of K9-66b Lantern to Special Summon it from his hand along with the K9-17 Izuna in his Graveyard. Kotton activated the effect of the Faimena in his hand to fuse a Lukias and a Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit in his hand and Summon another Arthalion. He activated the effects of Lukias and Arthalion to Set Ketu Dracotail and return both of Gelvez’s monsters to his hand. Gelvez Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.
Kotton drew Dracotail Urgula for his turn and then flipped up Rahu Dracotail. He fused Urgula from his hand with Dracotail Pan from his Deck and Summoned Dracotail Gulamel. He entered his Battle Phase, and then direct attacks from Gulamel and both copies of Dracotail Arthalion wiped out all 8000 of Gelvez’s Life Points!

Duel Two
Gelvez started his first turn and Kotton activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia from his hand in the Draw Phase. In his Main Phase, Gelvez activated Stake your Soul by revealing K9-66a Jokul from his hand.
He Special Summoned Mad Love from his Deck and added Vanquish Soul, Start! from his Deck to his hand with Mad Love’s effect. He activated it and used its effect by targeting Mad Love. He added Razen from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned it and activated its effect. Kotton drew a Ghost Ogre from his Deck thanks to Purulia’s effect and Gelvez added Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue from his Deck to his hand. Next, Gelvez sent Razen to the Graveyard to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher and Kotton Special Summon Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay from his hand. He drew 2 cards with its effect and returned a card from his hand to his Deck. Gelvez activated his Rock’s effect to return Razen from his Graveyard to his hand and then used Izuna’s effect to Special Summon the Izuna from his hand, allowing Kotton to draw another card. Gelvez used Izuna’s effect on the field to send K9-ØØ Lupis from his Deck to his Graveyard and then combined Lupis with Izuna to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He activated its effect, and Kotton Chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to try to destroy Ripper. Gelvez Chained Ripper’s effect by detaching an Xyz Material, and Kotton Chained Effect Veiler to negate Ripper’s effect, stopping Gelvez from adding a card to his hand with its effect, and pushing through the Ripper’s destruction! Gelvez ended his turn with no further play.
Kotton drew Nibiru, the Primal Being for his turn and added it to his hand of Dracotail Lukias, Dracotail Faimena, Dracotail Pan, and Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay. He Normal Summoned Lukias and activated its effect. Gelvez Chained the effect of Rock of the Vanquisher to Special Summon Razen from his hand, and Kotton added Dracotail Pan from his Deck to his hand. Gelvez used his Razen’s effect to add a card from his Deck to his hand in a new Chain, and Kotton Chained Faimena’s effect to fuse Lukias from his field and Pan from his hand and Summon Dracotail Gulamel. Gelvez added Vanquish Soul Jiaolong from his Deck to his hand with Razen’s effect. Kotton activated the effects of Pan and Lukias as Chain Links 1 and 2, and used Gulamel’s effect as Chain Link 3. He destroyed Start with Gulamel and Set Ketu and Rahu from his Deck. He also destroyed Mad Love thanks to Pan’s effect. Next, Kotton flipped up his Ketu Dracotail. He added Faimena from his Deck to his hand and fused it with the Phantazmay in his hand to Summon Mysterion the Dragon Crown. He used Faimena’s effect to Set Rahu Dracotail from his Deck. Kotton attempted to enter his Battle Phase, and Gelvez kept him in the Main Phase to Special Summon Hollie Sue from his hand. He then activated its effect to Special Summon Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius from his Deck and then Special Summoned Jiaolong from his hand with Jiaolong’s effect. Next, Gelvez used K9-ØØ Lupis’s effect to Special Summon it, and Kotton used the effect of Mysterion the Dragon Crown to try to banish it once it hit the field. Gelvez Chained Lupis’s effect in an attempt to Xyz Summon, and Kotton Chained Nibiru, the Primal Being’s effect to clear the field! All monsters were sent to the Graveyard, Kotton Special Summoned Nibiru, and Gelvez got a Primal Being Token with 18,200 ATK and 12,100 DEF! Kotton flipped Rahu Dracotail to fuse Pan from his hand with Urgula in his Deck. He Fusion Summoned Arthalion and then activated the effects of Arthalion on his field and Pan and Gulamel in his Graveyard. He Special Summoned the Gulamel, used Urgula’s effect to Set Dracotail Flame from his Deck, and used Arthalion effect to remove the Primal Being Token from the field. Direct attacks from Nibiru, Arthalion, and Gulamel wiped out all of Galvez’s Life Points!
