Round 11 Feature Match: James Guerrero Fuzia vs. Tyler Jo Felix

This is the final Swiss round, and we have two Duelists on the bubble for the Top 32! We saw Jersey City’s James Guerrero yesterday, where he won his Feature Match with his Atlantean Mermail Deck. He’s now facing Tyler Jo Felix, from Sioux City, Iowa, with Fiendsmith Azamina White Forest – the last White Forest Duelist in contention for the Top 32.

Duel 1

Felix won the roll and began with a hand of Tales of the White Forest, Azamina Aphes, Triple Tactics Talent, Fiendsmith’s Tract, and Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest.

In the Draw Phase, Guerrero activated Mulcharmy Purulia! Felix started with Fiendsmith’s Tract to get Fabled Lurrie, discarding it so he could Special Summon it. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem, and used Requiem’s effect – Guerrero Chained Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Requiem brought Lacrima the Crimson Tears to the field, and Guerrero got to draw a card. Lacrima’s effect put Fiendsmith Engraver in the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Engraver by returning Lurrie to the Deck. Then he used Lacrima and Engraver to Synchro Summon Chaos Angel in Defense Position, letting Guerrero draw again. Triple Tactics Talent came next, revealing Guerrero’s hand: Mermail Abyssteus, Gluttonous Reptolphin Greethys, Mermail Shadow Squad, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and Called by the Grave. Shadow Squad went back to the Deck. Felix Set Aphes to finish the turn.

Guerrero activated Abyssteus, discarding Heavy Infantry to Special Summon it in Defense Position. Abyssteus put Shadow Squad back into Guerrero’s hand, and he Normal Summoned it. Felix flipped Aphes, returning Shadow Squad to the hand. Guerrero Set a card in the back row.

Felix drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He returned Requiem to the Extra Deck to Special Summon Engraver, then Special Summoned Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest from his hand. He activated Tales of the White Forest to add Silvy of the White Forest to his hand. He used Engraver to Link Summon Requiem, and had Requiem Special Summon a new Engraver. He equipped Requiem to Engraver, then Normal Summoned Silvy. He used Silvy’s effect to add Sinful Spoils of the White Forest to his hand. He tuned Silvy to Elzette Azamina for Rciela, Sinister Soul of the White Forest. Rciela sent Requiem to the Graveyard to add Elzette of the Whie Forest to his hand, and Elzette Azamina put WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in Felix’s hand. He played WANTED to add Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand. He Special Summoned Elzette by sending Sinful Spoils of the White Forest to the Graveyard, and it added Rucia of the White Forest to his hand. Then, Sinful Spoils of the White Forest was Set. He tuned Rciela to Elzette for Diabell, Queen of the White Forest! It returned Aphes to his hand. Felix Special Summoned Rucia from his hand, using its effect to send Aphes to the Graveyard and draw Infinite Impermanence. Aphes was Set. He used Rucia and Engraver to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence, and Guerrero showed just how patient he’d been as he flipped up Infinite Impermanence to negate it! Felix Special Summoned Rucia from the Graveyard by returning Rciela to the Extra Deck. He used it and Sequence to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday, which revived and equipped to Engraver. He equipped Sequence to it as well, and used Engraver to send Sequence and Guerrero’s Abyssteus to the Graveyard. Finally, everything attacked directly to wipe out Guerrero’s Life Points!

James Guerrero

…except Guerrero survived?! Agnumday had been equipped in the same column as the earlier Infinite Impermanence, negating its ATK boost! That allowed Guerrero to survive with just 200 Life Points! Felix continued to Main Phase 2 unphased by the error, sending Agnumday to the Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar. Diabellstar Set Deception of the Sinful Spoils on the field. He activated it, Tributing Engraver to add The Hallowed Azamina to his hand. He played that, sending Sinful Spoils of the White Forest to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Azamina Illia Silvia! He then returned Hallowed to his hand by returning Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest to the Deck. He banished WANTED from the Graveyard to draw another Ash Blossom, and Set Infinite Impermanence.

Guerrero Normal Summoned Shadow Squad, using its effect to discard another Shadow Squad and become Level 7. Felix flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate it. The discarded Shadow Squad activated, and Felix activated Ash Blossom. Guerrero tried using Called by the Grave in response, but Felix negated that with Illia Silvia to secure this Duel!

Duel 2

Felix began the second Duel with Fiendsmith Engraver, Infinite Impermanence, Elzette of the White Forest, Fiendsmith’s Tract, and Sinful Spoils of the White Forest.

Guerrero started with Deep Sea Minstrel, discarding Atlantean Dragoons, and temporarily banishing Felix’s Infinite Impermanence. Dragoons put Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince in his hand, and he Normal Summoned it. Neptabyss sent Shadow Squad to the Graveyard to add another Dragoons to the hand. Shadow Squad let him Special Summon Mermail Abysspike, which discarded the Dragoons. With those two, he added Shadow Squad and Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord to his hand. He Tributed Mermail Abyssrhine from his hand and Neptabyss from the field to Special Summon Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth, and Neptabyss revived Dragoons. He Special Summoned Moulinglacia, which made Felix discard Fiendsmith’s Tract and Fiendsmith Engraver! Guerrero used Abysspike and Dragoons to Xyz Summon Bahamut Shark. He used Coelacanth’s effect, discarding Poseidra, the Storming Atlantean to Special Summon two more copies of Abysspike and a Greethys. He used tuned Greethys to an Abysspike to Synchro Summon White Aura Monoceros, which brought Greethys back to the field. He used Monoceros and Coelacanth to Xyz Summon Abysstrite, the Atlantean Spirit, which revived Shadow Squad. He used Greethys and Abysspike to Synchro Summon Deep Sea Prima Donna. Then he detached Dragoons from Bahamut Shark to Special Summon Toadally Awesome. Dragoons put Neptabyss in his hand. He used Shadow Squad, discarding another Shadow Squad to make his monsters Level 7. He stacked Moulinglacia and Shadow Squad for Mermail Abyssgaios! Felix would be getting his banished Infinite Impermanence back in the End Phase anyway, so Guerrero used Prima Donna to return the Impermanence to Felix’s hand and Special Summon Barrier Statue of the Torrents! He used Abysstrite and Bahamut to Link Summon Mermail King – Neptabyss, pointing to the Barrier Statue. Guerrero Set one back row card to finish the turn.

Felix drew The Hallowed Azamina. With a Barrier Statue in play and his hand dismantled by Moulinglacia, he had no way to make a comeback!

Duel 3

Felix began the final Duel with a hand of Lacrima, Effect Veiler, Silvy, Fiendsmith in Paradise, and Triple Tactics Talent. In the Draw Phase, Guerrero activated Mulcharmy Purulia. Felix let Guerrero have a card, Normal Summoning Silvy. Silvy’s effect put Tales of the White Forest in his hand. He activated it to add Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest to his hand. He Special Summoned it from his hand, and Guerrero drew another card. Guerrero then activated Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Felix played into it by Synchro Summoning Rciela. Elzette Azamina put Deception of the Sinful Spoils in his hand, and Rciela sent Fiendsmith in Paradise to the Graveyard to add a second Effect Veiler to his hand. He played Deception, Tributing Lacrima from his hand to add Azamina Aphes to his hand. He activated Talent, revealing Guerrero’s hand of Fuwalos, Abyssrhine, Abysspike, Neptabyss, Shadow Squad, and Heavy Infantry. He thought a moment before putting Abyssrhine back in the Deck. Felix Set Aphes to finish the turn, with Rciela in Defense Position.

Guerrero Normal Summoned Abysspike, discarding Shadow Squad, and Abysspike was hit by Effect Veiler. Shadow Squad brought Abyssrhine to the field. Felix activated the Fiendsmith in Paradise from his Graveyard, sending Fiendsmith’s Desirae to the Graveyard. Desirae shuffled Lacrima back into the Deck to send Abyssrhine to the Graveyard. Guerrero sent Abysspike to destroy Rciela in battle, and passed the turn. In the End Phase, Silvy returned to the field by returning Rciela to the Extra Deck.

Felix drew another Triple Tactics Talent. He used Deception to Tribute Silvy, adding The Hallowed Azamina to his hand. Guerrero banished Abyssrhine from the Graveyard and discarded Heavy Infantry to draw a card. Then, Heavy Infantry destroyed Deception before it could be used with Hallowed. Felix used Talent to draw Ash Blossom and Fabled Lurrie. He Normal Summoned Lurrie so he could Link Summon Requiem, and used that to bring Lacrima to the field. Lacrima sent Engraver to the Graveyard. He returned Desirae to the Extra Deck to Special Summon the Engraver, and used both Fiendsmiths to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence. He used its effect to fuse Engraver, Requiem, and Lurrie into Fiendsmith’s Desirae! Then he used Sequence and Desirae to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday. Agnumday brought Desirae back and equipped to it. Then, Sequence was also equipped. Desirae crushed Abysspike in battle, dropping Guerrero to 3800 Life Points.

Guerrero Normal Summoned another Abysspike, discarding Neptabyss for its effect. Once again, Felix used Effect Veiler to negate Abysspike. The discarded Neptabyss returned Shadow Squad to the field, and Felix returned it to the hand with Aphes. Guerrero activated Pot of Prosperity, banishing just three cards, but it was hit by Ash Blossom. Guerrero Set a back row card.

Felix drew Crossout Designator, and moved straight to the Battle Phase. Desirae crushed Abysspike in battle and wiped out the last of Guerrero’s Life Points!
