We’re back for Day 2 of the North America Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Dragon Duel Championship! The competition is down to just the Top 16, and it’s Single Elimination from here – these Dragon Duelists will need to go undefeated today if they want to take the title and a trip to Jump Festa in Japan! Hailing from Tennessee, we have Zephry N. using a Bystial @Ignister Maliss Deck. She’s facing Greg L., from Pennsylvania, with Mitsurugi Ryzeal. These are the two most popular Decks the Top 16, but only one can move on!

Duel 1

Greg won the dice roll and played first. Zephry had a hand of Maliss <C> GWC-06, Maliss <C> MTP-07, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and two copies of Droll & Lock Bird.

Greg started by setting one back row card and passed.

Zephry drew Infinite Impermanence. She Set all her traps and passed the turn.

Greg passed again.

Zephry drew Dominus Impulse. She flipped MTP-07, and Greg had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. She Set Dominus Impulse.

Greg Set a monster.

Zephry drew Maliss <P> Chessy Cat, and Normal Summoned it. She Link Summoned Linguriboh, then flipped GWC-06 to revive Chessy Cat. She Link Summoned Splash Mage, which revived Chessy Cat again. Greg activated Nibiru, the Primal Being, and Zephry negated and destroyed it with Dominus Impulse.

She Link Summoned Maliss <Q> Red Ransom, which put Maliss in Underground in her hand. Greg activated Droll & Lock Bird. She activated Underground, banishing Maliss <P> Dormouse from the Deck. She paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Dormouse, which banished Maliss <P> White Rabbit from the Deck. She Special Summoned White Rabbit as well, and didn’t use its effect. Zephry used White Rabbit and Red Ransom to Link Summon Accesscode Talker, and it gained 3000 ATK thanks to the Red Ransom in her Graveyard. She used Accesscode’s effect, banishing Red Ransom to destroy Greg’s Set Crossout Designator. Red Ransom returned to the field and banished a Chessy Cat from the Deck, which she Special Summoned. She banished Splash Mage for Accesscode’s effect, and Greg knew it was all over – he conceded the first Duel!

Duel 2

Zephry began the second Duel with a hand of Maliss in Underground, Maliss in the Mirror, Maliss <P> March Hare, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and Droll & Lock Bird.

Greg started by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal, and Zephry Chained Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Ice brought Star Ryzeal to the field, and Zephry drew Maliss <P> Dormouse with Fuwalos’s effect. Greg Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, adding Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. Aggregator targeted Star to Chain block for Ext, which put Node Ryzeal in his hand. He used all four monsters to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, attaching Mereologic Aggregator – Zephry drew Bystial Druiswurm with Fuwalos. Greg Set a back row card and activated Ryzeal Cross to finish.

Zephry drew a new Fuwalos, no longer helpful. She activated Maliss in the Mirror, and Greg paid half his Life Points to activate Solemn Judgment! Zephry Normal Summoned Dormouse, and activated its effect to banish White Rabbit. She paid 300 Life Points for White Rabbit, and Greg Chained Detonator to destroy Dormouse, detaching Mereologic Aggregator. White Rabbit hit the field, and in a new Chain, Aggregator negated it. Zephry tried to Special Summon Druiswurm, but its effect was negated by Ryzeal Cross. Zephry activated March Hare’s effect, and Detonator destroyed White Rabbit in response. March Hare resolved, getting Special Summoned by banishing Maliss in the Mirror. Mirror’s effect activated, Detonator destroyed March Hare in response, and Mirror banished Dormouse to put a new March Hare in Zephry’s hand. She paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Dormouse, then played Maliss in Underground. Greg detached Detonator’s last material to destroy the Field Spell in response. Zephry used Dormouse to Link Summon Linguriboh and passed the turn.

Greg Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, but couldn’t activate Ext’s effect with no cards left to find. He Special Summoned Node, sending Detonator to the Graveyard to try and revive Star. Zephry responded by banishing Star for her Druiswurm, bringing it to the field in Defense Position. Greg activated Cross, returning Detonator and Ice to the Deck, and Zephry responded with March Hare. White Rabbit was banished from the Graveyard to bring March Hare to the field, and Greg drew from Cross. Zephry used Droll & Lock Bird, then brought White Rabbit to the field as well. White Rabbit put MTP-07 on the field. Greg continued, using Node and Ext to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight! Its effect destroyed everything, and Druiswurm took down the Exciton in return. Zephry was left with just Fuwalos in hand and no field, while Greg had two cards left in the hand.

Zephry drew Maliss in Underground! She played it to banish Dormouse from the Deck, and paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it. Dormouse banished White Rabbit, and that hit the field as well. White Rabbit had no traps left to Set, and couldn’t activate. She Normal Summoned Fuwalos and used all three monsters to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter! She moved to the Battle Phase, and Hearts Crypter attacked directly. With its effect, Hearts Crypter banished itself and returned to the field with double the ATK, ending the Match!

Zephry N. moves on to the Top 8 with Bystial @Ignister Maliss!
