Round 8 Feature Match: Carl Manigat vs. Timmy Crane
We’re nearing the end of the first day here at YCS Providence, but the Duels are still running hot! We’ve got Carl Manigat, from Elmont, NY, who just won his live streamed Feature Match with his Ryzeal Deck thanks to his inclusion of Nemeses cards! He’s facing Timmy Crane, from Townsend, MA, playing Ogdoadic Mitsurugi! There’s a ton of sweet new Mitsurugi cards, and many Duelists have gone with a Ryzeal pairing to easily access King of the Feral Imps. Crane’s gone with Ogdoadics instead, for even more Reptile synergy.
Duel 1

He Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, which brought Star Ryzeal to the field. Star’s effect put Ryzeal Plasma Hole on the field. He activated Cross, then Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Duo Drive. He activated Seventh Tachyon, revealing Number 103: Ragnazero from his Extra Deck to add Surfacing Big Jaws to his hand, placing Fuwalos back on top of his Deck. He Special Summoned Surfacing Big Jaws, which brought Drake Shark to the party. He used both Fish to Xyz Summon Infernal Flame Banshee. He stacked Node and Star for Gallant Granite, using its effect to add Nibiru, the Primal Being to his hand. He sent Surfacing Big Jaws to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ice. He stacked Sword and Ext for Ryzeal Detonator, attaching Toadally Awesome as a material. He Set Plugin to finish the turn.

Crane played Book of Eclipse! Manigat Chained Detonator, detaching Toadally Awesome to destroy itself before everything flipped face-down. Toadally Awesome’s effect put Surfacing Big Jaws back in Manigato’s hand. Crane played Snake Rain, discarding Nephilabyss, the Ogdoadic Overlord! Snake Rain sent Keurse, the Ogdoadic Light; Nunu, the Ogdoadic Remnant; Nauya, the Ogdoadic Remnant; and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Nephilabyss from the Graveyard. Before he could activate its effect, Manigat flipped Plugin to revive Detonator, attaching Sword to it as a material. Detonator then attached Toadally Awesome as a material again. Manigat then flipped Plasma Hole targeting Nephilabyss, but Crane had Forbidden Droplet, sending Nephilabyss to the Graveyard to negate Detonator! Crane tried activating Nunu’s effect in the Graveyard, but Manigat negated it with Ryzeal Cross, detaching Toadally Awesome from his Detonator. Crane had a second Snake Rain! He discarded Futsu no Mitama no Mitsurugi, sending Night Sword Serpent; Aron, the Ogdoadic King; Nauya, and Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Night Sword Serpent, with no other cards on the field or in hand. He Tributed Night Sword Serpent to Special Summon Keurse from the Graveyard, which let Manigat Special Summon Star from the Graveyard. Keurse activated, and Manigat Chained Plasma Hole’s effect in the Graveyard! That let him use Ice and Star to Xyz Summon Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir in Defense Position, negating Keurse and shutting down Crane’s turn for good!
Duel 2

Crane flipped Prayers, Tributing Murakumo to add Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa to his hand, and took 800 damage to Special Summon Murakumo once more. Crane Chained Murakumo’s effect, and Manigat discarded Ice to make his effect resolve. Eschatos attacked directly.
Crane Normal Summoned Saji, which added Prayers to his hand. He flipped Magatama, Tributing Saji to target Eschatos. He knew Eschatos couldn’t be destroyed by Magatama, but he needed to get his Reptile off the field to prevent Eschatos from applying a second time. He Set a card in the back row, unable to make meaningful plays while Eschatos’s effect still lingered for the rest of this turn.
Manigat drew Seventh Tachyon. He sent Eschatos to attack directly.
Crane activated Nauya’s effect, sending Keurse to the Graveyard. Manigat had nothing but Eschatos, and he could see where Crane’s turn was about to go. He chose to concede here with 17 minutes remaining in the round, rather than spend those minutes on a Duel he knew was over.
