
Round 2 Feature Match: Joshua Kippenberg vs. Ian Fitzpatrick
Things are just getting started here at YCS Providence! For this round’s feature match, we have Joshua Kippenberg and Ian Fitzpatrick. Both of these Duelists started off hot, winning their first round, and will be looking to remain perfect here. Kippenberg is playing his trusted Ryzeal Deck, but has added in a Heraldic Beast engine, featuring several powerful new cards from Alliance Insight. Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick will be using his Blue-Eyes Deck, a fan favourite that a lot of Duelists would love to see win! Who will win and continue on at YCS Providence with an undefeated record? Duel 1
Kippenberg chose to go first, his opening hand consisting of Called by the Grave, Mulcharmy Purulia, Star Ryzeal, Infinite Impermanence, and Ryzeal Cross. However, he chose to end his turn without making any plays!
During Fitzpatrick’s Standby Phase, Kippenberg activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia! Fitzpatrick activated the effect of Maiden of White, placing True Light to his Spell/Trap Zone, then activated True Light’s effect to Set Wishes for Eyes of Blue from his Deck. He activated Wishes to add Sage with Eyes of Blue and Ultimate Fusion to his hand. Fitzpatrick then Normal Summoned Sage with Eyes of Blue, activating its effect to add Priestess with Eyes of Blue to his hand. He used Sage to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, but when he activated its effect, Kippenberg responded with Infinite Impermanence! He activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, banishing Sage from his Graveyard, Set two cards to his backrow, and entered the Battle Phase, attacking Kippenberg’s Life Points directly with Spirit and Magnamhut! During Main Phase 2, Fitzpatrick used his two monsters to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. Fitzpatrick ended his turn by resolving Magnamhut’s effect to add Bystial Druiswurm to his hand.
Kippenberg drew Nibiru the Primal Being for turn! He activated Bonfire, adding Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Number 18: Heraldry Patriarch to the Graveyard, adding Node Ryzeal to his hand while sending Heraldic Beast Gryphon and Heraldic Beast Leo from his Deck to the Graveyard. He activated Leo’s effect, adding Heraldic Beast Stad Whale to his hand, then Normal Summoned it. He attempted to activate its effect, discarding Nibiru, but Fitzpatrick responded with Infinite Impermanence! Kippenberg then Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, adding Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He used Ext, Sword, and Stad Whale to Xyz Summon Primathmech Laplacian, sending a random card from Fitzpatrick’s hand to the Graveyard, as Fitzpatrick activated Seal’s effect, returning True Light to his hand and Special Summoning Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Deck. This also allowed him to Special Summon Maiden of White from the Graveyard!
Kippenberg Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from his hand, then sent Laplacian to the Graveyard to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal from the Graveyard. He activated Ryzeal Cross, then used Sword and Node to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, attaching it with Number 18. He Special Summoned Star Ryzeal by detaching Number 18 from Detonator, activating Number 18’s effect to send two copies of Heraldic Beast Gryphon to the Graveyard. Fitzpatrick activated Druiswurm’s effect, attempting to banish Number 18, but Kippenberg Chained the effect of Detonator to destroy Blue-Eyes, then negated Druiswurm’s effect on resolution with Cross. Kippenberg used Detonator and Star to Xyz Summon Eclipse Twins, then sent Twins to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ice Ryzeal! He used Twins’ effect to Special Summon back Detonator and attach it with Number 18, then activated Stad Whale’s effect in the Graveyard, Special Summoning out two copies of Heraldic Beast Gryphon. He used the two Gryphons to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, attached Ext to it, then activated its effect to search for Node Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal. He entered the Battle Phase and used Called by the Grave to banish Fitzpatrick’s Blue-Eyes from the Graveyard, attacked Maiden with Ice, then attacked directly with Duo Drive and Detonator before ending his turn.
Fitzpatrick began by activating the effect of Bystial Druiswurm, banishing Nibiru from his Graveyard. He then Normal Summoned Priestess, and used it to Link Summon another Spirit with Eyes of Blue. However, he realized he didn’t have enough to push through Kippenberg’s board, and conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Kippenberg’s opening hand consisted of Crossout Designator, Nibiru the Primal Being, Triple Tactics Thrust, Ice Ryzeal, and Infinite Impermanence.
Fitzpatrick started by Normal Summoning Sage with Eyes of Blue, but Kippenberg responded with Infinite Impermanence! Next, Fitzpatrick used Sage to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, then activated Mausoleum of White from his hand. He activated Wishes for Eyes of Blue, discarding Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons to add Maiden of White and Ultimate Fusion to his hand. He then activated Maiden’s effect, discarding it to place True Light in his Spell/Trap Zone, and used Mausoleum’s effect to send Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard.
Next, Fitzpatrick used Spirit’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard, which allowed him to also Special Summon Maiden of White! He activated True Light’s effect, Setting The Ultimate Creature of Destruction from his Deck, then used Blue-Eyes and Maiden to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon. However, while still in the Main Phase, Kippenberg activated the effect of Nibiru the Primal Being from his hand! Despite losing his Spirit Dragon, Fitzpatrick still ended his turn.
Kippenberg drew another copy of Nibiru for turn! He Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, activating its effect, and when Fitzpatrick responded with Infinite Impermanence, Kippenberg responded with Crossout Designator, banishing his own Impermanence from the Deck! Kippenberg Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, searching for Ext Ryzeal, as Fitzpatrick used True Light to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard, which allowed him to bring out Maiden of White. Kippenberg then activated Triple Tactics Thrust, adding Harpie’s Feather Duster to his hand, then activated Duster. Fitzpatrick responded by activating The Ultimate Creature, protecting his Blue-Eyes, and on resolution, the effect of True Light destroyed Fitzpatrick’s other monsters.
Next, Kippenberg Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal, sending Number 18: Heraldry Patriarch to the Graveyard, which in turn allowed him to send Heraldic Beast Leo and Heraldic Beast Stad Whale to the Graveyard, then used Leo’s effect to search for Heraldic Beast Gryphon. He used Sword and Ice to Xyz Summon Number 60: Dugares the Timeless, and used its effect to Special Summon Stad Whale. He activated Stad Whale’s effect, discarding Gryphon to search for two copies of Advanced Heraldry Art! He used Stad Whale and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, then activated Duo Drive’s effect to search for Star Ryzeal and Node Ryzeal. He used Dugares and Duo Drive to Xyz Summon Eclipse Twins, then Special Summoned Star Ryzeal and retrieved Ryzeal Cross from the Deck. He Special Summoned Node, used Node to send Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard and Special Summon back Sword Ryzeal, then entered the Battle Phase and used Nibiru to attack Fitzpatrick’s Blue-Eyes White Dragon, getting it off of his side of the field and freeing up some Main Monster Zones!
In Main Phase 2, Kippenberg activated Advanced Heraldry Art to Special Summon Heraldic Beast Gryphon and Heraldic Beast Leo, then used them to Xyz Summon Number 69: Heraldry Crest. He then used Star, Node, and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach it with Eclipse Twins. Finally, he used Number 69 as material to Xyz Summon Number 69: Heraldry Crest – Shatter Stream!
Realizing that he wouldn’t be able to play through Kippenberg’s board, Fitzpatrick conceded. Kippenberg moves on with a 2-0 record!
