Round 7 Feature Match: Kaihuang Zhang vs. Darian Hahn

Kaihuang Zhang from Alhambra, California and Darian Hahn from Madison, Wisconsin are both currently 6-0 at YCS Houston and they’re Dueling against one another in this Round 7 Feature Match! Both Duelists have played in YCS tournaments before, but neither one of them has ever made it into the Top Cut – now, with both of them currently undefeated at YCS Houston, they’re both in a great position to finally make it there. Zhang – who is dressed as Arias the Labrynth Butler and using Labrynth card sleeves – is using a Labrynth Deck. Hahn is running a Ryzeal Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Zhang opened up Duel 1 with Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon, Absolute King Back Jack, Arianna, the Labrynth Servant, and 2 copies of Big Welcome Labrynth.

He Normal Summoned Arianna and activated its effect, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. Next, he Set both copies of Big Welcome Labrynth and the Daruma Cannon to his back row.

Hahn activated Seventh Tachyon by revealing Number 104: Masquerade from his Extra Deck and added Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand before returning a card from his hand to his Deck. Next, he Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and used the effect of Ext to add Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned the Sword and used its effect to add Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He combined Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and used its effect to attach Eclipse Twins from his Graveyard to his Detonator as an Xyz Material. He activated Ryzeal Cross from his hand next, and then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal. He used its effect to Special Summon another Sword from his Deck and then entered his Battle Phase. Ice attacked and destroyed Arianna, and then direct attacks from Sword and Detonator dropped Zhang down to 3400 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Hahn combined Sword with Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive. Zhang flipped Big Welcome Labrynth, and lost out on its effect to Hahn’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Zhang flipped Karma Cannon, and Hahn Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Zhang’s face-down Big Welcome Labrynth. Duo Drive and Detonator were flipped face-down by the Karma Cannon, and then Hahn Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Zhang drew Trap Trick and then Normal Summoned Back Jack. He Xyz Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis using Back Jack as an Xyz Material. He detached Back Jack to activate TY-PHON’s effect and return Detonator to Hahn’s Extra Deck and then used Back Jack’s effect in a new Chain. He rearranged the top 3 cards of his Deck, but there were no Traps among them. He attacked the face-down Duo Drive with TY-PHON to destroy it and Set Trap Trick from his hand before ending his turn.

Hahn used his Cross’s effect to return a Sword and an Ext from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw a card. He Set a card to his back row and then passed. In the End Phase, Zhang activated Trap Trick! He banished a Welcome Labrynth from his Deck to Set a copy from his Deck, then flipped it to Special Summon Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle from his Deck. He activated Back Jack’s effect in the End Phase next, excavating Arias the Labrynth Butler from the top of his Deck and sending it to his Graveyard.

Zhang drew Transaction Rollback next and then activated Lovely Labrynth’s effect to Set Trap Trick from his Graveyard to his field. He entered his Battle Phase and direct attacks from TY-PHON and Lovely Labrynth dropped Hahn down to 2200 Life Points. Next, Zhang banished a Big Welcome Labrynth from his Graveyard to return TY-PHON from his field to his Extra Deck. He used Lovely Labrynth’s effect to destroy Ryzeal Cross since a monster left the field by a Trap Card’s effect, and then Set the Rollback from his hand before passing his turn.

Hahn drew a card and conceded, unable to play through Zhang’s Lovely Labrynth and Trap Cards.

Zhang takes the first victory of the Match with his Labrynth Deck!

Duel Two

Hahn started off Duel 2, but Zhang immediately activated the effect of Labrynth Chandraglier by discarding Mischief of the Gnomes from his hand!

Zhang Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his Deck with Chandraglier’s effect and then banished Mischief of the Gnomes from his Graveyard to activate its effect, reducing the Level of each monster in Hahn’s hand by 1! Hahn continued his turn by activating Bonfire to add Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Ice as a Level 3 monster and used its effect to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He used Sword’s effect to add an Ice from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Ext from his hand as a Level 3 monster by sending Duo Drive from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He couldn’t activate the effect of Ext to add a card from his Deck to his hand because he had a Level 3 monster on his field! He passed his turn with 3 monsters on his field and no back row cards.

Zhang drew Pot of Extravagance and added it to his hand of Trap Trick, Dimensional Barrier, and another Pot of Extravagance. He activated the Pot by banishing 6 cards face-down from his Extra Deck at random and then drew Trap Trick and Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Hahn activated Droll & Lock Bird to prevent Zhang from adding more cards from his Deck to his hand. Zhang Set Fuwalos and then activated Big Welcome Labrynth to Special Summon Lovely Labrynth from his Deck and return the face-down Fuwalos to his hand. He activated the effects of Lovely Labrynth and Chandraglier since a monster left the field by a Trap Card’s effect. He returned Chandraglier from his Graveyard to his hand and then used Lovely Labrynth’s effect to destroy a Nibiru, the Primal Being in Hahn’s hand. Lovely Labrynth attacked and destroyed Ice Ryzeal, and in Main Phase 2, Zhang Set 3 Trap Cards from his hand. He then used Lovely’s effect to Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his Graveyard to his back row and activated Chandraglier’s effect by discarding Fuwalos to Set Welcome Labrynth from his Deck to his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He ended his turn with 5 cards in his back row and a Lovely Labrynth on his field.

Hahn drew a card and Zhang flipped Welcome Labrynth in the Draw Phase to Special Summon Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle from his Deck. Next, he activated Dimensional Barrier declaring Xyz monsters. Once again unable to Xyz Summon any monsters during his turn, Hahn immediately conceded.

Kaihuang Zhang takes the 2-0 victory and advances with a 7-0 record using his Labrynth Deck!
