Round 6 Feature Match: Colby Blomstrom vs. James Guerrero Fuzia
We’ve got another local Duelist for this Feature Match – Colby Blomstrom, playing Primite Blue-Eyes! He’s facing James Guerrero, from Jersey City, using Atlantean Mermails! These Duelists have both been waiting for a Feature Match since the last time we had a YCS in Houston, and they’re ready to deliver!
Duel 1
Guerrero had an opening hand of Mermail Abysspike, Mermail Abyssrhine, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Infinite Impermanence, and Mermail Shadow Squad. Blomstrom immediately used Mulcharmy Purulia; Guerrero responded with Ash Blossom, and Blomstrom Chained a second Purulia! Guerrero activated Abyssrhine, Tributing it and Shadow Squad to Special Summon Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth. Shadow Suad brought Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince to the field. Neptabyss sent Atlantean Dragoons to the Graveyard to add another Dragoons to the hand. The first Dragoons activated to add Deep Sea Minstrel to his hand. “You don’t… really want that card, do you?” Blomstrom asked sheepishly. The Duelists laughed as Guerrero activated Minstrel, discarding it and Dragoons. Blomstrom revealed a hand of Pot of Desires, Maiden of White, and Primite Drillbeam. The Drillbeam was banished until the end of the turn. Then, the discarded Dragoons put Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord in Guerrero’s hand. He counted out exactly five WATER monsters in the Graveyard, and Blomstrom pointed out that he had two WATER monsters, in case that mattered. Guerrero Special Summoned Moulinglacia, and Blomstrom drew a card with his Purulia’s effect. Then, Moulinglacia’s effect made Blomstrom discard Pot of Desires and Neo Kaiser Sea Horse. That left him with just Maiden for now.

Guerrero continued, using Coelacanth’s effect to discard Abysspike, letting him Special Summon an Abysspike and Gluttonous Reptolphin Greethys. He Synchro Summoned White Aura Monoceros, which brought Abysspike to the field. He stacked Monoceros and Coelacanth for Abysstrite, the Atlantean Spirit! Abysstrite brought Dragoons to the field, and he stacked Abysspike and Dragoons for Bahamut Shark. He detached Dragoons for Bahamut to Special Summon Toadally Awesome! The detached Dragoons let him add Atlantean Heavy Infantry to his hand. He used Neptabyss and Bahamut Shark to Link Summon Marincess Coral Anemone, which let him Special Summon Deep Sea Minstrel. Minstrel’s effect excavated three cards and put Dragoons on the bottom of his Deck. He then used Coral Anemone and Minstrel to Link Summon Mermail Abyssalacia. He Set Infinite Impermanence to finish his incredible turn! In the End Phase, Drillbeam went back to Blomstrom’s hand.
Blomstrom drew for the turn, and played Drillbeam, revealing Primite Lordly Lode to try and hit Toadally Awesome. Guerrero used Toad’s effect to negate and Set the card, and then Toad’s other effect put Dragoons in his hand. Blomstrom played Lordly Lode to add Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to his hand. He Normal Summoned that to add another Drillbeam to his hand. He used Ether Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, and it was negated by Guerrero’s Infinite Impermanence. Blomstrom used Maiden’s effect to put True Light on the field. He activated True Light’s effect, and Guerrero Chained Abyssalacia, discarding Atlantean Heavy Infantry to add Mermail Abyssteus to his hand. Then True Light’s effect Set Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. In a new Chain, Heavy Infantry destroyed True Light, and True Light destroyed Blomstrom’s Spirit with Eyes of Blue. He flipped up Roar to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, then Special Summoned Maiden from the Graveyard. Guerrero activated Abyssrhine’s effect in the Graveyard, discarding Dragoons to draw another Abyssteus. Dragoons then put Poseidra, the Storming Atlantean in his hand. Blomstrom Synchro Summoned Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon. He wanted to use Lordly Lode’s effect to Special Summon a monster, but it had been played in the same column as Infinite Impermanence. He sent Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon to attack Abyssalacia.
Guerrero drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos. He used Abysstrite to Xyz Summon Poseidra Abyss, the Atlantean Dragon Lord! Blomstrom activated Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, Tributing it to bring Blue-Eyes Ultimate Spirit Dragon to the field! Guerrero activated Abyssteus, discarding his other Abyssteus to Special Summon it. The on-field one put Mermail Shadow Squad in his hand. He sent the Shadow Squad to the Graveyard to Special Summon Poseidra, the Storming Atlantean. He activated Poseidra’s effect as Chain Link 1, and Shadow Squad as Chain Link 2. This blocked Blue-Eyes Ultimate Spirit Dragon from negating Poseidra, and Blomstrom conceded in the face of Guerrero’s monsters!
Duel 2
Guerrero started this Duel with Infinite Impermanence, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Deep Sea Minstrel, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and Gluttonous Reptolphin Greethys.
Blomstrom started by Special Summoning Kashtira Fenrir in Defense Position. He Normal Summoned Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, which put Primite Lordly Lode on the field. He activated it to add Primite Drillbeam to his hand. Guerrero activated Fuwalos here. Blomstrom used Fenrir to get another Fenrir in hand. He then used Lordly Lode to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and Guerrero drew Pot of Prosperity. Blomstrom Special Summoned Neo Kaiser Sea Horse from his hand, then used it and Beryl to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. Guerrero drew Abyssrhine. and Neo Kaiser’s effect then sent Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon to the Graveyard. Blomstrom Set two back row cards.

Guerrero drew Mulcharmy Purulia. He led with Prosperity, banishing six cards, and Blomstrom negated it with Drillbeam. Guerrero discarded Greethys to use his Minstrel, looking at Blomstrom’s hand of Fenrir and Neo Kaiser, temporarily banishing the Neo Kaiser. Then, he used Impermanence to negate Fenrir. He activated Abyssrhine, discarding Heavy Infantry. Its effect put Poseidra, the Storming Atlantean in his hand, and Heavy Infantry targeted Hieratic Seal. Blomstrom Chained it, Tributing it to return Lordly Lode to his hand. Then, Hieratic Seal Special Summoned Bystial Magnamhut with 0 ATK and DEF, and Blomstrom activated its effect. Guerrero discarded Purulia to Special Summon his Poseidra. Poseidra let him send Shadow Squad to bounce away Blomstrom’s last Set card. Shadow Squad’s effect brought Neptabyss to the field. He activated its effect, sending Dragoons to the Graveyard to add another Dragoons to his hand. The first Dragoons then put a new Neptabyss in his hand. He used Poseidra and Neptabyss to Link Summon Coral Anemone, which revived Greethys. That let him bring Shadow Squad from the Graveyard as well. He used Shadow Squad and Coral Anemone to Link Summon Mermail King – Neptabyss. Greethys attacked Magnamhut, and Blomstrom Special Summoned Jet Dragon from his hand. In the End Phase, the banished Neo Kaiser went back to Blomstrom’s hand. He also used his Magnamhut’s effect to add Blue-Eyes White Dragon to his hand.
Blomstrom played Lordly Lode to put Drillbeam in his hand. He played it to banish King Neptabyss, then moved to the Battle Phase. Fenrir attacked and activated its effect targeting Greethys. Guerrero Chained Abyssrhine’s effect in the Graveyard, discarding Neptabyss to draw Barrier Statue of the Torrents. Greethys was banished, and Neptabyss then brought Poseidra to the field. He used its effect, sending Shadow Squad to the Graveyard to bounce Jet Dragon. Shadow Squad brought Abysspike to the field, which discarded Dragoons to add a new Shadow Squad to the hand. Dragoons put a new Poseidra in his hand. Finally, Fenrir redeclared its attack since Greethys was long gone, now taking down Abysspike in battle. That let him Special Summon the Jet Dragon again. Blue-Eyes White Dragon attacked Poseidra, and Jet Dragon attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, he played Neo Kaiser and Link Summoned Spirit with Eyes of Blue. Neo Kaiser sent Maiden to the Graveyard, and Spirit put Mausoleum in his hand. He played it to discard the Blue-Eyes White Dragon in his hand. He used Spirit to revive the discarded Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and Maiden hit the field alongside it. Guerrero could see where this was going, and conceded the Duel.
Duel 3
Guerrero began the final Duel with a hand of Harpie’s Feather Duster, Abyssrhine, Deep Sea Minstrel, Neptabyss, and Infinite Impermanence. He activated Minstrel, discarding Abyssrhine, and Blomstrom Chained Artifact Lancea! That meant Minstrel couldn’t hit Blomstrom’s hand. Guerrero Normal Summoned Neptabyss, using it to send Shadow Squad to the Graveyard and add Dragoons to the hand. Shadow Squad Special Summoned Abysspike, which discarded the Dragoons to add Abyssrhine to his hand. Dragoons then put Moulinglacia in his hand. He used Abyssrhine, sending Neptabyss to the Graveyard to Special Summon Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth. Neptabyss then revived Dragoons. That gave him exactly five WATER monsters for Moulinglacia! He Special Summoned it and activated its effect, and Blomstrom Chained Infinite Impermanence to negate Coelocanth – apparently that was more important than losing two more cards. Moulinglacia’s effect then made him discard Maiden and Pot of Desires! Guerrero used Dragoons and Abysspike to play Bahamut Shark, then detached Dragoons to Special Summon Toadally Awesome. Dragoons put Poseidra in his hand. He sent Bahamut Shark to the Graveyard to Special Summon Poseidra. Then he used Coelacanth and Poseidra to Xyz Summon Abysstrite. It brought Minstrel back to the field. With Minstrel’s effect he excavated three cards, including Barrier Statue of the Torrents, and put Abyssrhine on the bottom of his Deck. He then used Abysstrite and Minstrel to Link Summon Coral Anemone, which brought back Barrier Statue in Defense Position! He Set Infinite Impermanence to finish the turn.
Blomstrom activated Maiden, and Guerrero negated it with Toadally Awesome. Facing down a Barrier Statue and more, Blomstrom offered the handshake!
James Guerrero takes the Match with Atlantean Mermails!
