Adam Quenneville from Tilbury, Ontario, Canada and Treston Ward from Ozark, Alabama are both currently 2-0 at YCS Houston. Quenneville is using a Fiendsmith Tombkeeper Deck packed with new cards from Maze of the Master, while Ward is using a Ryzeal Deck that uses Seventh Ascension. Now, they’re facing off in this Round 3 Feature Match! Only one of them can advance with a perfect 3-0 record. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Quenneville opened up Duel 1 with Fiendsmith’s Tract, Merciless Scorpion of Serket, The Man with the Mark, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and Book of Eclipse.

He Normal Summoned The Man with the Mark and used its effect to add Treasures of the Kings from his Deck to his hand. He activated it immediately and used its effect to Set Apophis the Serpent from his Deck to his Spell & Trap Card Zone. Next, he Set Fiendsmith’s Tract and used the effect of Treasures of the Kings to add Anubis the Last Judge from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Merciless Scorpion of Serket to Summon it by banishing Anubis the Last Judge from his Deck. He activated the Scorpion’s effect to add Temple of the Kings from his Deck to his hand. Next, he sent his Scorpion and The Man with the Mark to the Graveyard to Link Summon Moon of the Closed Heaven. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem and then Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears. He used Lacrima’s effect to send Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard and then used Requiem’s effect to equip it to Lacrima. He sent Lacrima and Requiem to the Graveyard to Special Summon Necroquip Princess and then activated the effect of the Anubis in his hand to add The Man with the Mark from his Deck to his hand. He triggered his Necroquip’s effect to draw Mulcharmy Purulia from his Deck. Next, he activated Fiendsmith’s Tract to add Fabled Lurrie from his Deck to his hand and discard it. He used Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it from his Graveyard and then Special Summoned Engraver from his Graveyard by returning Requiem from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck. He sent Engraver and Lurrie to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence and then used Sequence’s effect. He returned Lacrima, Engraver, and Moon from his Graveyard to his Deck and Fusion Summoned Fiendsmith’s Desirae from his Extra Deck. He sent Sequence and Necroquip to the Graveyard to Link Summon Silhouhatte Rabbit and used its effect to Set Statue of Anguish Pattern from his Deck to his back row. Next, he used the effect of Sequence in his Graveyard to equip it to his Desirae and he Set Book of Eclipse to his back row before ending his turn.

Ward Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal from his hand by sending Mereologic Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He used the effects of Ext and Mereologic Aggregator to add Sword Ryzeal to his hand and negate the effect of Fiendsmith’s Sequence. Next, he Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal and activated its effect. Quenneville Chained Apophis the Serpent to Sword’s effect, followed by Statue of Anguish Pattern.  Statue Summoned itself, and then Apophis the Serpent Summoned itself to the Monster Card Zone and Set Apophis the Swamp Deity from his Deck. Sword Ryzeal’s effect added Ice Ryzeal to Ward’s hand. In a new Chain, Statue’s effect destroy Sword Ryzeal. Next, Ward sent Bonfire from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Ice Ryzeal. He combined his monsters to Summon Ryzeal Detonator and activated its effect. Quenneville Chained Apophis the Swamp Deity, and Ward Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Sequence. After Sequence was destroyed, Apophis the Swamp Deity Summoned itself and negated the Detonator’s effect. In a new Chain, Statue of Anguish Pattern destroyed the Detonator. Ward Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal and used its effect to Special Summon Node Ryzeal from his Deck. Quenneville activated Book of Eclipse! All monsters on the field (except Silhouhatte Rabbit) were turned face-down, and Quenneville’s three Traps in the Monster Card Zone were returned face-down to his Spell & Trap Card Zone. Ward activated Ryzeal Cross next and used its effect to return 2 Ryzeal monsters from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw a card. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn. In his End Phase, Ward’s two monsters flipped face-up and Ward drew 2 cards due to the effect of Book of Eclipse.

Quenneville drew another Purulia and then flipped up Statue of Anguish Pattern in this Draw Phase to Special Summon it. He used his Rabbit’s effect to destroy a face-down Infinite Impermanence on Ward’s field. Next, he Flip Summoned Desirae and sent Desirae and Rabbit to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday. He used Desirae’s effect to send Ward’s face-down Crossout Designator to the Graveyard and then flipped Apophis the Serpent to Special Summon it and Set another Swamp Deity from his Deck. He used the effect of his Statue to destroy Node Ryzeal. Next, he used the effect of Treasures of the Kings to add Anubis the Last Judge from his Deck to his hand. He flipped Apophis the Swamp Deity to Special Summon it and negate the effect of Ryzeal Cross. He used his Statue’s effect again, this time to destroy Ice Ryzeal. In the Battle Phase, direct attacks from Quenneville’s on-field monsters dropped Ward down to 2600 Life Points, and then Quenneville used Agnumday’s effect to Special Summon Desirae from his Graveyard. Desirae’s direct attack wiped out the rest of Ward’s Life Points!

Duel Two

Ward chose to go first in Duel 2 and Quenneville activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia; but Ward negated it by activating the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

Ward activated Seventh Tachyon next by revealing Number 103: Ragnazero from his Extra Deck. He added Surfacing Big Jaws from his Deck to his hand and returned a card from his hand to his Deck. He used the Big Jaws’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand then used its on-field effect to add Drake Shark from his Deck to his hand. Next, he used Drake Shark’s effect to Special Summon it to his field. He Normal Summoned Ext Ryzeal next and used its effect to add Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He combined both Sharks to Xyz Summon Bahamut Shark and used its effect to Special Summon Toadally Awesome from his Extra Deck. He Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal from his hand next and used its effect to add Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. Next, he combined Sword with Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and activated its effect. He detached both Xyz Materials from it and added Ryzeal Cross and Node Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Cross and then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from his hand. He used Node’s effect to send Bahamut Shark to his Graveyard and Special Summoned Sword from his Graveyard. He combined Node with Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and used its effect to attach Drake Shark from his Graveyard to his Detonator as an Xyz Material. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Quenneville drew a Treasures of the Kings and added it to his hand of Apophis the Serpent, Temple of the Kings, Book of Eclipse, and a second Treasures of the Kings. He activated Temple of the Kings and Ward Chained his Detonator’s effect to destroy it. Ward Chained Book of Eclipse, and Ward Chained his Toadally Awesome’s effect to negate it and Set the Book of Eclipse to his own field. He used his Toad’s effect in the Graveyard to add Surfacing Big Jaws from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, Quenneville activated Treasures of the Kings and Ward used his Detonator’s effect to destroy it. Quenneville conceded, unable to overcome Ward’s first-turn field.

Duel Three

Quenneville opened up Duel 3 with Anubis the Last Judge, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Lightning Storm, Fiendsmith Engraver, and Apophis the Swamp Deity. He activated the Tract and added Fabled Lurrie from his Deck to his hand and discarded it. He Special Summoned it form the Graveyard with its effect and then used it as a Link Material to Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributed Requiem to activate its effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, he sent Anubis the Last Judge from his hand to his Graveyard to add The Man with the Mark from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and added Treasures of the Kings from his Deck to his hand. He activated Treasures of the Kings and Set Apophis the Serpent from his Deck with its effect. Next, he Set Apophis the Swamp Deity and used the other effect of Treasures of the Kings to add Merciless Scorpion of Serket to his hand. He Special Summoned it to his field by banishing an Anubis from his Deck and used its effect to add Temple of the Kings from his Deck to his hand. He sent Serket and The Man with the Mark to the Graveyard to Link Summon Silhouhatte Rabbit and used its effect to Set Statue of Anguish Pattern from his Deck to his field. He activated Temple of the Kings next, and then flipped up Apophis the Serpent to Set Apophis the Swamp Deity from his Deck and Special Summon the Serpent. He activated the Swamp Deity to Special Summon it and then sent the Serpent and the Swamp Deity to the Graveyard to Special Summon Divine Serpent Apophis from his Extra Deck. He activated the Divine Serpent’s effect to Set Swamp Deity and Serpent from his Graveyard back to his field and then ended his turn.

Ward activated Lightning Storm to destroy all of Quenneville’s back row cards! Quenneville Chained Swamp Deity followed by Serpent. Serpent was Special Summoned, and then Swamp Deity Special Summoned itself and negated the Lightning Storm! Next, Ward activated Bonfire to add Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it by sending Mereologic Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and then used the effects of Ext and Aggregator. He targeted Divine Serpent with his Aggregator’s effect. Quenneville Chained Statue of Anguish Pattern. The Chain resolved. The Statue was Summoned, the Divine Serpent’s effect was negated, and Ward added Sword Ryzeal to his hand. Ward Special Summoned Sword and used its effect to add Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He combined Sword with Ext to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight and used its effect. Quenneville flipped Apophis the Swamp Deity to Special Summon it and negate the effect of Exciton Knight, then used his Statue’s effect in a new Chain to destroy Exciton Knight. Next, Ward Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal and used its effect to Special Summon Node Ryzeal from his Deck. He used Node’s effect to send Metaltronus from his hand to his Graveyard and Special Summon Sword Ryzeal. He Xyz Summoned Duo Drive and used its effect to gain an Xyz Material. Next, he used its other effect to detach 2 Xyz Materials from it and add Ryzeal Cross and Ryzeal Plugin from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Cross and then used Cross’s effect to return 2 Ryzeal cards from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw a card. He sent a Crossout Designator from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Ice Ryzeal from his hand and then Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. He used its effect to attach Mereologic Aggregator to it as an Xyz Material and then attacked and destroyed the Divine Serpent and attacked the Silhouhatte Rabbit. The Rabbit couldn’t be destroyed by battle, but Queenneville still took the damage. Quenneville dropped down to 6400 Life Points. Ward Set a card to his back row and passed.

Quenneville drew Triple Tactics Thrust and then sent two copies of the Swamp Deity to the Graveyard to Special Summon Divine Serpent Apophis. He activated its effect, and Ward Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Treasures of the Kings. Ward negated the Divine Serpent’s effect with Ryzeal Cross as it tried to resolve, by giving up an Xyz Material. Next, Quenneville activated Thrust, and Ward Chained his Detonator’s effect to destroy the Silhouhatte Rabbit. Quenneville added Ultimate Slayer to his hand and activated it. He sent Mereologic Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard to return the Detonator to Ward’s Extra Deck. Quenneville activated Engraver’s effect to add Tract to his hand and used Tract’s effect to add Lacrima to his hand and discard Lightning Storm. He Special Summoned Engraver by returning Requiem from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck and then Normal Summoned Lacrima and sent Fiendsmith in Paradise from his Deck to his Graveyard with Lacrima’s effect. He sent Lacrima to the Graveyard to Link Summon Requiem and Tributed it to try to Special Summon from his Deck, but he lost out to Ward’s Ash Blossom. Quenneville equipped Engraver with the Requiem in his Graveyard and used Engraver’s effect to send Requiem and the Duo Drive to the Graveyard. He Link Summoned Link Spider and then Link Summoned Sequence. He activated Sequence’s effect, and Ward Chained Plugin to Special Summon Duo Drive and give it an Xyz Material. Quenneville Special Summoned Desirae with Sequence’s effect. Next, Quenneville Link Summoned Agnumday, using Desirae and Sequence as Link Materials, and used Desirae’s effect to send Duo Drive to the Graveyard. Next, Quenneville Special Summoned Anubis the Last Judge from his Graveyard with its effect and entered his Battle Phase! Direct attacks from Agnumday, Anubis, and the Divine Serpent dropped Ward down to 400 Life Points, and then Agnumday’s effect Special Summoned Desirae equipped with Agnumday. A direct attack from Desirae finished off the rest of Ward’s Life Points!
