Round 2 Feature Match: William Falkner vs. Everardo Chavez

Things are heating up as we jump into our Round 2 Feature Match! Hailing from Fargo, North Dakota, we have William Falkner playing Primite Blue-Eyes with a very special Fusion Monster lineup. He initially started Dueling with Speed Duel, and now he’s attending his first YCS! He’s facing Everardo Chavez, who didn’t travel quite as far – he’s here from Austin, Texas, and is playing a Fiendsmith Ryzeal Deck.

Duel 1

Falkner won the roll, and began with a hand of Maiden of White, Mausoleum of White, Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, Primite Lordly Lode, and Bystial Druiswurm. He Normal Summoned Ether Beryl and used its effect to put Primite Lordly Lode on the field. He activated it to add Primite Drillbeam to his hand. He activated Maiden’s effect to place True Light on the field, then used True Light to Set Wishes for Eyes of Blue. He activated Wishes, discarding Drillbeam, and Chavez had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Falkner used Drillbeam’s effect to Set it. Then he used Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue. He played Mausoleum, using its effect on Spirit to send Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard. He used Spirit’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes from the Graveyard, then Special Summoned Maiden as well. He banished Wishes from the Graveyard to equip Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to his Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Then, he Synchro Summoned Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon in Defense Position.

Chavez started by Special Summoning Ext Ryzeal, sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. He activated Ext, then Aggregator targeting Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, and Falkner Chained Spirit Dragon to negate Aggregator. Ext put Sword Ryzeal in Chavez’s hand. He Special Summoned that to get Ice Ryzeal. Falkner activated Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon’s effect, Tributing it to try and bring out a new Synchro Monster. Chavez Chained Called by the Grave! Falkner Chained Druiswurm, targeting his Synchro Monster to try and dodge Called by the Grave – but Chavez had Crossout Designator to banish his own Druiswurm, negating Falkner’s! Falkner Chained True Light to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Spirit Dragon wound up banished and negated. In a new Chain, Maiden hit the field as well. Chavez Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Duo Drive, and Falkner hit it with Drillbeam. Chavez continued by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal, which Special Summoned another Ext. He Xyz Summoned Evilswarm Exciton Knight, and wiped out all of Falkner’s cards! He Set two back row cards and passed with an empty hand.

Falkner drew Nibiru, the Primal Being. In the Standby Phase, he added Beryl to his hand with its effect. He Normal Summoned it, using its effect to Set Lordly Lode on the field. He flipped it up to add another Beryl to his hand. He Set Drillbeam from his Graveyard with its effect, then Link Summoned Spirit with Eyes of Blue. He used it to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, then Special Summoned Maiden from the Graveyard. He Synchro Summoned Lightstorm Dragon, using it to destroy Chavez’s Metaltronus and Crossout Designator. Then Falkner used Lordly Lode to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from his Deck. He used both his monsters to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres.

In the Draw Phase, Falkner used Drillbeam to banish Exciton Knight before it could use its effect. Chavez had just one card in hand, and didn’t see a way to come back after this!

Duel 2

Chavez began with Lacrima the Crimson Tears. Its effect put Fiendsmith Engraver in the Graveyard. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem, which he used to Special Summon an Engraver from the Deck. He Special Summoned the other Engraver from his Graveyard, returning Requiem. He Link Summoned D/D/D Wave High King Caesar, then Set two cards in his back row.

Falkner started the Duel with Wishes for Eyes of Blue, Pot of Prosperity, Ultimate Fusion, Majesty of the White Dragons, and True Light. He drew Blue-Eyes White Dragon. He banished six cards to play Prosperity, revealing three copies of Ultimate Slayer… and both Duelists laughed. He took an Ultimate Slayer, and Chavez activated Droll & Lock Bird. Falkner used Ultimate Slayer to send Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis to the Graveyard and shuffle away Caesar. He then Set Ultimate Fusion, Majesty, and True Light.

Chavez Special Summoned Engraver by returning Lacrima to the Deck. Falkner flipped Majesty, revealing the Blue-Eyes in his hand to destroy Engraver. Chavez Normal Summoned Fabled Lurrie, and Link Summoned Requiem. He used it to Special Summon Lacrima from his Deck, which sent Fiendsmith in Paradise to the Graveyard. Lacrima attacked directly. In the End Phase, Falkner flipped True Light and Special Summoned Blue-Eyes from his hand.

Falkner drew Maiden of White. He played Wishes, discarding the Maiden, and Chavez revealed the last card in his hand to be an Ash Blossom. Falkner used Wishes’s effect in the Graveyard to equip Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to his Blue-Eyes White Dragon, increasing its ATK. He attacked over Lacrima. In Main Phase 2, he used True Light’s effect to Set a card. Chavez Chained Lacrima’s effect in the Graveyard, returning it to the deck to Special Summon Requiem. True Light Set Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. Chavez then used Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima again, which put Engraver in the Graveyard. Falkner flipped up Roar to Special Summon another Blue-Eyes White Dragon. That let him Special Summon Maiden from the Graveyard. He used Maiden and the equipped Blue-Eyes to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon. Chavez activated Fiendsmith in Paradise’s effect in response to the summon. Falkner Chained Spirit Dragon to negate it, and Chavez flipped Infinite Impermanence. Falkner flipped Ultimate Fusion! He fused Spirit Dragon and Blue-Eyes White Dragon into Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon, and Ultimate Fusion also let him destroy Lacrima! Infinite Impermanence had no target now, so Fiendsmith in Paradise was negated by Spirit Dragon’s effect.

Chavez Special Summoned Engraver by returning Lurrie to the Deck. He then equipped Requiem to the Engraver, and used Engraver’s effect to send Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon to the Graveyard. He played the card he drew this turn – Fiendsmith’s Tract! He added Lurrie to his hand and discarded it, then Special Summoned it from the Graveyard. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Sequence and activated its effect. Falkner Chained True Light to Special Summon Blue-Eyes, and Sequence fused Chavez’s Fiends into Fiendsmith’s Desirae! Falkner Special Summoned Maiden from the Graveyard. Chavez used Desirae and Sequence to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday. Desirae’s effect returned Engraver to the Deck to send Maiden to the Graveyard. Chavez used Agnumday to bring Desirae back, and equipped it with Agnumday and Sequence. It attacked over Blue-Eyes White Dragon, dropping Falkner to 3500 Life Points.

Falkner had nothing left but True Light, and drew Primite Drillbeam. Chavez activated Lacrima in the Graveyard, and Falkner Chained True Light, hoping Chavez would let it slide. Chavez didn’t fall for it, and Chained Desirae to negate it, locking in this Duel!

Duel 3

Falkner began the final Duel with Ash Blossom, Sage with Eyes of Blue, Ultimate Fusion, and two copies of Primite Dragon Ether Beryl. He Normal Summoned Beryl, using it to Set Lordly Lode. He flipped it to add Drillbeam to his hand. He used Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, which put Mausoleum of White in his hand. He played Mausoleum, then used his additional Normal Summon to play Sage. Sage put Maiden of White in his hand. He then used Mausoleum’s effect on Spirit, sending Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard. He activated Maiden to put True Light on the field. He activated True Light’s effect to Set Wishes for Eyes of Blue. Then he used Spirit to Special Summon Blue-Eyes from the Graveyard, which brought Maiden along with it. He used Sage and Blue-Eyes to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, then flipped Wishes, discarding his second Beryl to put Effect Veiler and Majesty of the White Dragons in his hand. He tried using Lordly Lode to Special Summon Blue-Eyes, and Chavez negated it with Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. Falkner Set all his Spell & Trap Cards to finish.

Chavez Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, and it was promptly hit with Ash Blossom. Chavez played Bonfire to get Ext Ryzeal, and Special Summoned it by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. He activated Ext as Chain Link 1, and Aggregator targeting True Light as Chain Link 2. Falkner used Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon as Chain Link 3 to negate Aggregator, and then used Effect Veiler as Chain Link 4 on Ext Ryzeal. Then he Chained True Light to try and Special Summon a Blue-Eyes as Chain Link 5. Chavez added Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit as Chain Link 6 to destroy True Light! Finally, Falkner used Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon as Chain Link 7, Tributing it to bring forth a new Synchro Monster!

The final result of this incredible course of events was Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon bringing Blue-Eyes Ultimate Spirit Dragon to the field, True Light getting destroyed, and Ext Ryzeal getting negated. Then, in a new Chain, True Light destroyed all of Falkner’s monsters. His Ultimate Spirit Dragon brought Blue-Eyes White Dragon back to the field, and Maiden hit the field after that. Chavez used Ice and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, which attached Aggregator as a material. It attacked Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and Falkner flipped Drillbeam. Chavez Chained Detonator to destroy Lordly Lode before his monster was banished.

Falkner drew Magnamhut, and returned Beryl from the Graveyard to his hand. He Normal Summoned Beryl to Set a new Lordly Lode on the field. He used the Graveyard effect of Wishes to equip his Blue-Eyes with Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. He banished his Veiler to Special Summon Magnamhut, and used its effect to get another Dragon in the End Phase. He attacked with everything, and in the End Phase, Magnamhut’s effect put Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon in his hand. He then flipped Ultimate Fusion, combining Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and Chaos MAX into Dragon Master Magia!

After taking massive damage and now facing down Dragon Master Magia, Chavez had no way to make a comeback!
